Hollywood continues to go “woke” and viewers just aren’t having it.
Movies and television shows are ramping up their efforts to shove a progressive agenda down people’s throats.
And the ratings plummeted for one disastrous Hollywood Awards show.
Hollywood awards shows have struggled to attract big audiences as the shows and the honorees have become increasingly political.
The low point occurred when the Oscars went without a host after Kevin Hart was “canceled” for old tweets.
The shows haven’t been the same since, and they’ve only gotten worse because of the draconian COVID-19 restrictions that have made them virtual.
Now the Golden Globes just recently went down in flames.
From The New York Post:
“It turns out, even though most viewers were home anyway, they decided not to watch the 2021 show, as Nielsen ratings recorded a paltry 6.9 million viewers…In the key demo of adults aged 18 to 49, the 2021 show notched a 1.5 rating, a new all-time low; the 2020 show had a 4.7 rating in that demo.”
In advance of the show, host Tina Fey promised that it wouldn’t be political.
During a podcast interview she said, “We just want to make it a fun hangout for people at home — kind of a stress reliever, so I don’t think you can expect much politics at all.”
However, that didn’t stop Fey from calling out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA)—the body that runs the Golden Globes—for its lack of diversity.
The corporate press has also jumped on the #HFPASoWhite train, slamming the organization for not having any black members.
Award recipients also used their acceptance speeches to propagate a political message.
Despite lampooning Sarah Palin for years, Fey hasn’t been as overtly political as her fellow liberal colleagues.
In the past, she ripped the Oscars on The Howard Stern Show for being too political.
Coincidentally, Stern has since become “woke,” a rapidly spreading epidemic in entertainment circles.
Three years ago, Oprah Winfrey used her Golden Globes speech to promote the “Time’s Up” movement against sexual harassers in the workplace.
Her sermon to the rest of America was both galling and ironic considering Winfrey was good friends with serial sexual predator Harvey Weinstein.
Hollywood is fighting like hell to maintain moral legitimacy, but it isn’t working.
People are sick of the fake outrage and double standards.
They just want to see entertaining movies and television shows, but politics comes first in the entertainment industry.
Hollywood is opening itself up to competition from upstart studios willing to produce content that the average American wants to see.
The ratings show that Americans are getting sick and tired of stodgy awards shows that preach to the rest of the country.
