Leftists are determined to make anti-American anthem protests an issue for as long as possible.
Even though the majority of Americans can’t stand the protests, these activist players are more preoccupied with signaling their virtue and childishly defying Donald Trump.
Now one NFL team might betray their coach in an awful way to continue with the unpatriotic protests.
The Minnesota Vikings plan to be a top contender during the upcoming NFL season.
The Vikings had a historically good defense and won a Divisional Round instant classic against the New Orleans Saints on one of the most improbable last-second plays in NFL history.
The Vikings fell one game short of the Super Bowl but ostensibly got better by adding free agent Kirk Cousins to the richest per-year salary the league has ever seen: three years $84 million, fully guaranteed.
The Vikings will be a formidable opponent for sure, but that’s if team chemistry doesn’t get fractured first.
In light of the new National Anthem policy that requires players to stand for the flag or wait in the locker room (or incur a fine against their team), several teams have grumbled about protesting in some gaudy way to show their disdain for Donald Trump.
If the Vikings engage in some splashy protest, they will be disappointing their head coach, Mike Zimmer.
The Vikings did not protest last year, and Zimmer hopes they take the same approach this year.
Zimmer said:
“I was proud of my team last year…They stood for the anthem…I think it’s important we represent our country the right way…A lot of people have died for that flag. That flag represents our country and what we stand for.”
Zimmer’s stance is truly patriotic. He understands that American symbols are important. He understands that American service men and women deserve the nation’s respect for their sacrifice.
Sadly, many protesting players don’t understand this.
They would rather disrespect veterans and active-duty personnel just to poke Donald Trump in the eye.
Kneeling to take a jab at the American President is a terrible waste of time, and undercuts whatever murky message the protesters are trying to promulgate.
Kneeling out of spite is not noble. And the fact the players are even considering it shows that their agenda is anti-American and not about police brutality.
If the goal was to raise awareness, everybody knows. In fact, the Department of Justice under Barack Obama was already investigating police shootings when Colin Kaepernick made his nonsensical, far-left statement.
If the Minnesota Vikings go against Zimmer, it could derail their season. A team that doesn’t respect its head coach is a team that cannot win.
In the past, talented teams have fallen apart over chemistry issues. All 32 teams in the league have great players desperate to win.
A small fly in the ointment can be the difference between one team making the playoffs, and another team throwing in the towel early during a disappointing season.
NFL players should be investing their energy and resources into communities bereft of industry and basic services due to shameful Democratic leadership.
For the sake of Vikings fans, here’s hoping the players wise up and avoid engaging in a chief political stunt to perturb Trump. Mike Zimmer is holding his breath.
