The politicization of sports has gone haywire.
Sports leagues are rolling over and folding to pressure from the Democrat Media Complex.
But one senator destroyed Major League Baseball for the shocking political stunt they pulled.
The Democrats went completely insane during the Donald Trump era.
Suddenly every aspect of American life was assailed by the Left; they wanted total compliance in the culture.
The political push moved into the sports world, and it’s only gotten worse.
The MLB recently caved to pressure amid a disinformation campaign against a new voting law enacted by legislators in Georgia.
Joe Biden and other top Democrats slandered the bill as “Jim Crow on steroids” even though the bill simply made voter fraud more difficult.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced that the 2021 All-Star Game would be moved from Atlanta to Denver in order to punish Georgia Republicans for the new law.
Ironically, Colorado’s voting laws are similar to Georgia’s, and even permits fewer days for early voting.
Also, local businesses in Georgia felt the brunt of the move to the tune of $100 million.
Making matters worse for the purveyors of the “Jim Crow 2.0” lie, Florida senator Marco Rubio wrote a letter to Manfred that exposed the utter hypocrisy of the entire saga.
Rubio asked Manfred if he would renounce his exclusive membership at Augusta National in Georgia because of the new law.
Rubio wrote in an open letter:
“I write to ask you whether you intend to maintain your membership at Augusta National
Golf Club. As you are well aware, the exclusive members-only club is located in the State of Georgia…Will Major League Baseball now end its engagement with nations that do not hold
elections at all like China and Cuba? Will you end your lucrative financial relationship with Tencent, a company with deep ties to the Communist Party and actively helps the Chinese Government hunt down and silence political dissidents?”
The virtue-signaling by MLB and other weak-kneed organizations is coming back to bite them.
It’s beyond hypocritical to prattle on about voter suppression when China tamped down pro-Democracy protests in Hong Kong and engages in veritable slave labor.
Georgia Republicans have thus far held firm, which is exactly the right move.
Whenever people bend the knee to the Left, cancel culture only gets worse.
Trump showed that the correct response is to stand on principle and let the Democrats implode.
Biden and other top Democrats know the Georgia law isn’t Jim Crow revisited, but they’ll say or do anything to get their way.
Rubio concluded his letter to Manfred:
“I am under no illusion you intend to resign as a member from Augusta National Golf Club…To do so would require a personal sacrifice, as opposed to the woke corporate virtue signaling of moving the All Star Game from Atlanta.”
Rubio is correct.
These entities have made the calculation that virtue-signaling and caving to the “woke” left is more cost-effective in the long run.
They need to start understanding that it is not.
