Even though the Me Too Scandal broke nearly two years ago, many celebrities are still being accused of sexual misconduct to this day.
Most careers are dead as a result like Louis C.K., Kevin Spacey, and Harvey Weinstein. They likely have no shot at career resurgence. But others like Morgan Freeman and Dustin Hoffman have also been accused of sexual harassment and their careers likely won’t be affected.
And one of America’s most famous self-help gurus was just accused of sexual assault and it’s unclear how this will affect them.
Anthony Robbins aka “Tony Robbins” has been an internationally renowned self-help guru for the last thirty-plus years.
The 59-year-old’s words of advice to help people better improve their lives has reached millions.
Robbins has been featured on television shows like “Piers Morgan Tonight,” “Today,” “The Dr. Oz Show,” and “Good Morning America.” But he was also featured as a central part of the plot in the Farrelly brothers “Shallow Hal” starring Jack Black, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jason Alexander, where Robbins puts a curse on Black’s character where the inner beauty of a person becomes their outer beauty – the bigger the heart; the more outside beauty they have.
But now it seems as though there might be a different side to the revered self-help guru.
According to a scathing new BuzzFeed report, Robbins is now accused of sexually harassing fans and staffers when he’s not berating “rape victims of rape and violence.”
BuzzFeed’s Jane Bradley wrote, “But behind that dazzling veneer, Robbins guards his empire with intense secrecy. Employees are bound by strict confidentiality agreements, and audiences who attend his multiday coaching camps must sign contracts forbidding them from recording what goes on inside. A yearlong investigation by BuzzFeed News, based on leaked recordings, internal documents, and dozens of interviews with fans and insiders, reveals how Robbins has berated abuse victims and subjected his followers to unorthodox and potentially dangerous techniques. And former female fans and staffers have accused him of inappropriate sexual advances.”
That’s probably why he’s this secret about his seminars and the behind-the-door work of his employees.
The most explosive accusation of BuzzFeed’s investigation read, “Interviews and records reveal how Robbins has created a highly sexualized environment in which both men and women have been told to touch themselves intimately and simulate orgasms — but he has repeatedly singled women out of the crowd for more personal attention. One secret recording from 2018 captured him laughing as he told a woman in the audience that he wanted her to ‘come up onstage and make love to me.’ And two former bodyguards told BuzzFeed News they were sent out to trawl audiences for attractive women on Robbins’ behalf. Two women told BuzzFeed News they had witnessed it or experienced it themselves.”
Robbins has been married to his second wife since 2001 too, but that didn’t stop him from allegedly exposing himself to two staffers.
And it wasn’t just sexual either.
When a female guest, speaking at a December 2018 seminar in Palm Beach, Florida, said her husband emotionally abused her, Robbins reportedly dismissed her as only “focused on her needs.
Robbins allegedly said, “We’ve not heard one thing in the last 12 minutes about his needs. And we’re already characterizing it as emotional violence. There’s no f–king thing.”
The woman clarified there was physical violence.
Robbins pushed back, “What role did you play? I’m not suggesting there’s any excuse for hitting a woman, so hear me. But I also want you to know that people don’t just act a certain f–king way.”
Robbins later allegedly added, “Has he looked out for you, does he put up with you when you’ve been a crazy b—h? Have you ever been a crazy b—h? Ever?”
Should any of this come as a surprise? This is how celebrities that live in their own bubble view the world. But if these allegations are true and you’re one of the most famous self-help gurus in history that says this kind of garbage then maybe you should re-evaluate what you do for a living.
