The “woke” left mob is out in full force.
Anyone who steps out of line runs the risk of getting a deluge of criticism and even threats.
But one Hollywood actor just took a stand against cancel culture.
Ethan Hawke has had a long career as an actor, and he also writes novels.
While doing press for his latest book “A Bright Ray of Darkness,” Hawke talked about nearly censoring himself on the page for fear of backlash.
Hawke told The Guardian:
“We’re in this period now when you can’t even write about bad behavior because it might seem like you’re condoning it. You have to be able to create a character who does things they wish they didn’t do. I went back and forth on it, because it’s just a petrifying time to speak about male sexuality. If you can’t shine a light into dark corners, the demons that live there will never go away.”
Not only is Hawke correct, but cancel culture goes even further than that.
Writers who don’t fit the progressive stack can be hectored by the mob.
The pro-immigration book “American Dirt” was “canceled” by the woke left because author Jeanine Cummins wasn’t sufficiently latina.
Cummins is of Irish and Puerto Rican descent, but she still received backlash for writing the book, so much so that her press tour literally had to be canceled due to safety concerns.
In an author’s note at the end of the book, Cummins pondered if “someone slightly browner than me” should have written the novel.
This is the crazed culture the country finds itself mired in.
A growing number of comedians and actors have spoken out against the Stalinist silencing tactics, but the problem won’t go away until corporations, small businesses, and everyday citizens reject cancel culture.
When people stand up to the mob, the mob always backs down.
Getting targets to bend the knee is a test of strength.
All it takes is the backbone to tell the petulant mob “no” for them to realize they’ve picked a target they cannot push over.
Worse yet, the so-called mainstream media have fully adopted cancel culture.
CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and other outlets are desperate to get Fox News booted off the air.
Big tech banned the president of the United States, so the Democrat Media Complex has been emboldened to go after other big targets.
However, Rupert Murdoch said he had zero intention of caving to the mob.
Hawke isn’t alone when he talks about apprehensively writing his true voice.
One survey showed that only progressives feel completely comfortable speaking their minds in public settings.
Anyone to the right of the progressives runs the risk of being labeled “far right,” harassed at work, harassed at home, and even physically assaulted.
The sooner more people realize the cancel mob is the minority, the better it will be for society.
