Sports are under attack.
Authoritarians are doing their best to “sanitize” athletics.
Now one football coach just got suspended for one comment he made.
Bad Word Choice
Sports are not the most politically correct environment.
Emotions run high.
A lot is at stake.
Players and fans talk trash.
It’s part of the culture of sports.
Sometimes things go too far.
But the response to poor statements shouldn’t go overboard.
That’s perhaps what happened at the University of Massachusetts.
Head football coach Mark Whipple received a one-game suspension for what he said at a press conference.
After a tough loss, Whipple shared his anger over what he felt was terrible officiating.
Whipple said, “We had a chance there with 16 down and they rape us, and he picks up the flag.”
Whipple’s choice of words was poor.
But a suspension seems excessive.
Should a coach sit out a game for saying the opponent “murdered us?”
Nobody would suggest a coach was trivializing murder.
The same standard should apply to Whipple’s comments.
Punishing people for words, especially when there’s clearly no malicious intent, can be dangerous.
Cultural Moment
Whipple’s suspension isn’t really about what he said.
It’s about the broader cultural landscape.
The entire nation is watching the Brett Kavanaugh proceedings.
The Supreme Court nominee is twisting in the wind as Democrats try to destroy his name.
Kavanaugh got hit with a 36-year-old accusation of sexual assault.
His accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, has provided zero corroboration for her claim.
There’s also evidence she might’ve perjured herself under oath.
But that doesn’t matter.
Democrats believe it’s enough to destroy his reputation.
The left dogpiled with a lurid accusation of gang rape from a woman named Julie Swetnick.
Her gang rape allegations against Kavanaugh completely fell apart, but the left continues to push the narrative.
This is the current climate.
This is why Whipple got a suspension.
Language Police
The left is hellbent on controlling language.
They don’t believe in free speech.
They believe hate speech is not free speech.
The First Amendment of the Constitution has no exception for hate speech.
But the left doesn’t care.
Speech codes are essential to their power.
The idea of political correctness goes back to Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong.
Leftists in the west adopted the same principle.
The late ‘80s/early ‘90s saw a strong political correctness movement in the U.S.
But ultimately it failed.
However, PC culture is back in a big way.
Tech giants gave leftist authoritarians tools to silence people.
Conservative views on social media are often banned and demonetized.
These left censors wiped pro-Trump commentator Alex Jones off every platform.
The reason given was bogus.
The left doesn’t need a reason.
All they need is power.
That’s the justification for everything they do.
Chelsea Handler even suggested locking people up for offensive speech.
That’s the next step.
If leftists had their way, they’d put conservatives in gulags and re-education camps.
Their lust for control knows no bounds.
