You remember that term “deplorables,” right? It was the term Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton used about Donald Trump supporters in the months leading up to the 2016 General Election.
Leave it to Hollywood to exploit and demoralize Trump supporters everywhere in any way they possibly can.
And this new Hollywood thriller is being blasted because it’s exclusively about killing Make America Great Again-like “deplorables.”
The slew of movies or television shows that have come out in the past few years to blast Republicans and President Trump is about as insufferable as it gets.
The new Showtime show about the rise of Fox News and more specifically about the network’s president, Roger Ailes (played by Russell Crowe), might be the most obnoxious of them all.
They portray Ailes as a ruthless, sadistic sex-monger who flaunts around the same anti-liberal talking points you’ve heard over the last twenty years. Apparently, they all came from the horse’s mouth.
Another was the movie “The Oath,” written, directed and starring President Trump-hating liberal, Ike Barinholtz, which is about a family struggling to sign an “oath” pledging allegiance to America – but things get complicated when what seems to be a voluntary measure, turns out to be mandatory. It’s an eye-rolling premise and it’s clearly a vitriolic message against President Trump and his supporters.
Barinholtz also happens to be starring in a new Blumhouse production (“Get Out,” “Halloween 2019” and “Whiplash”) called “The Hunt” which is set to hit theaters on September 27th.
The plot seems to be a retelling of Richard Connell’s 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” about a big-game hunter from New York City who has the rug pulled out from underneath of him when he falls off a yacht and swims ashore to what he believes to be an abandoned isolated island in the Caribbean. But it turns out the hunter becomes the hunted when a Russian aristocrat tries to kill him for sport.
That’s what this movie appears to be about but it has a controversial spin. The plot of “The Hunt” is being reported as a bunch of wealthy thrill-seeking liberals that take a private jet to a five-star resort so they can embark on killing a dozen MAGA-like deplorables.
The Hollywood Reporters’ Kim Masters and Tatiana Siegel wrote, “The violent, R-rated film from producer Jason Blum’s Blumhouse follows a dozen MAGA types who wake up in a clearing and realize they are being stalked for sport by elite liberals. It features guns blazing along with other ultra-violent killings as the elites pick off their prey.”
According to the Hollywood trade publication, characters in the film refer to the victims as “deplorables,” which is what Hillary Clinton famously dubbed Trump supporters during the 2016 election. The report noted that a character asks, “Did anyone see what our ratf–ker-in-chief just did?”
A character responds, “At least The Hunt’s coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables.”
But the filmmakers are trying to spin it as some sort of “satire” knowing that labeling it that will lighten the load, somehow disguised as an excuse to get away with this kind of content.
DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall told Fox News that the movie is “harmful to a culture that surely needs messages of unity and understanding” during the current climate.
McCall said, “It says something sad about the state of the ‘entertainment’ industry that this movie ever got conceived and produced. Hollywood clearly thinks it is OK to stereotype so-called deplorables and set them up for a hunt. Thank heavens some sensible outlets are pulling the promotional ads.”
Why anybody would think it would be okay to make a movie like this at this time is perplexing, to say the least. Also, aren’t liberals trying to reform the Second Amendment? There are guns blazing all over this trailer.
