The Left wants to shove politics in people’s faces at all times.
Not even sporting events can be free of politics.
And an NBA Hall of Famer called out sports leagues for one anti-American protest.
The politicization of sports has only gotten worse since former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the ugly anti-American anthem protests.
Kaepernick has since gone on to celebrity status in liberal circles, but he left a path of destruction in his wake.
Sports leagues are still grappling with polarizing political issues.
The NFL in particular is in a quandary, and now the league is moving forward with playing two separate national anthems before select games.
The unofficial black national anthem will be played in tandem with “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the Pro Bowl, the Super Bowl, and a handful of other special events.
NBA Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas thinks the NFL is going down a dangerous road.
In a conversation with former ESPN and Fox Sports host Jason Whitlock, who has become a gadfly for the Left in his new position at The Blaze, Thomas said:
“When you sing the national anthem, and then you sing the black national anthem, the only thing that it does is it’s emphasizing our separateness…Our Founding Fathers, when they wrote the constitution and everything else, they were talking about bringing us together under one umbrella, under one constitution, where all men and women are created equal…When you sing those two different anthems, you’re just emphasizing…there are two different statuses in this country. Black and White.”
Thomas is obviously right.
However, the Left seems more interested in dividing the country than bringing it together.
Joe Biden and other prominent Democrats make hollow pledges for unity, but promote polarizing ideas like two separate national anthems before games.
And the problem extends beyond the NFL.
The radical Left is pulling the mainstream to the fringes.
That’s why college campuses are resegregating along identity lines; progressives at many PWIs (predominantly white institutions) have nonwhite dorms, orientation sessions, and graduation ceremonies.
The Left’s push for “social justice” is actually making things worse.
Support for Black Lives Matter peaked after the horrific death of George Floyd, but the movement’s favorability ratings have dropped to pre-Floyd levels.
The drop was a result of the group’s increasing radicalism—the founders were exposed as “trained Marxists”—and questions of malfeasance.
One of the co-founders stepped down from the organization after being scrutinized for a multimillion-dollar real estate shopping spree.
And the corporate press is shamelessly widening the chasm in the country.
New York Times contributor Mara Gay said she was intimidated by the sight of trucks with American flags during Memorial Day weekend.
The Left has gone insane, and they’re spreading the insanity to the rest of the country.
There is no reason for two national anthems at sporting events.
At some point, cooler heads must prevail and nip this nonsense in the bud.
