Everyone hates a hypocrite, except for people on the left.
The left embraces its hypocrites and calls them courageous, as is the case with MSNBC host Joy Reid who got caught lying about homophobic posts she had made.
Reid issued a non-apology and her comrades publicly gave her a mulligan, but the latest revelations from Reid’s past could be too much for liberals to bear.
Reid disgraced herself by claiming she didn’t make homophobic posts on her decade-old blog, insisting instead she had been hacked.
The absurdity of Reid’s hacking assertion was quickly debunked and ridiculed, but that didn’t stop the left from allowing her to escape with a slap on the wrist.
But now Reid’s old posts about Islam could open up an entirely new can of worms that might be the breaking point for her bosses at MSNBC.
From The Daily Wire:
More controversial blog posts from embattled MSNBC host Joy Reid’s now-defunct website have come to light, including posts describing Islam as “largely incompatible” with Western civilization, as well as promoting blogs critical of Muslims.
Reid has been at the center of a media firestorm this week for posts expressing what has been widely condemned as “homophobic” comments. Reid previously apologized in December 2017 for similar writings that were found on her site, but now claims that she was hacked — a claim that even left-wing outlets say appears to be groundless. The Daily Beast has gone so far as to “hit pause” on Reid’s column on the site as they investigate the “serious” allegations of Reid’s “homophobic blog posts.”
On Thursday, The Washington Free Beacon highlighted more potentially problematic posts by Reid in which she promoted blogs criticizing Muslims and stated that Islam’s “current iterations” are “largely incompatible” with Western civilization.
The Free Beacon reports:
“In February 2006, much of the Muslim world broke out into violent protest over Danish paper Jyllands-Posten’s publication of several cartoons of the prophet Muhammad. Reid weighed in on the matter in a Feb. 2 blog post, titled “Clash of civilizations, take 15,342,” that framed the violence as an indictment of George W. Bush’s neoconservative quest to bring democracy to the Islamic world.\”
In reference to an American Muslim group calling it a “learning experience,” Reid wrote a statement that flies in the face of the Left’s multiculturalism: “Uh … ok… I’m not sure what we’re learning here, except that the current iterations of Islam are largely incompatible with Western notions of free speech and expression, and thus, I’d say, with the Bushian dream of Western style democracy for all,” she wrote.
Reid also criticized Westerners who defended Muhammad cartoons, saying that it was naive to expect Muslims to embrace free speech. “You guys wanna demand that the world’s billions of Muslims get with the ‘classical liberalism’ program? Good luck. That tactic has really worked out for the Scandinavians, the British and the French,” Reid wrote, linking to reports from those countries that showed terrorism and riots, according to the Free Beacon.
The Beacon also points out that Reid described as a “salient point” blogger Mark in Mexico’s warning that Muslims would be a global threat should they ever find their way out of “garbage and sewage laden streets outside of their mud huts.”
Reid makes a living calling people on the right racists and bigots, yet her comments are more hawkish than the practical criticisms of mass migration and forced multiculturalism levied by conservatives.
It would’ve been easy for Reid to own up to her past and apologize, but she wouldn’t even do that, likely because she knew the left wouldn’t require her to do so.
Reid wouldn’t be the first person to change his or her views over time. However, one has to wonder how much Reid’s views have truly changed since her blog was shut down.
Reid didn’t make these comments in her early 20s; she was well into her late 30s-early 40s when she made these posts, and they echo tweets she made in 2010.
Whatever Reid believes, her credibility has been completely shot.
