Leftists are intent on destroying all institutions and remaking them in their image.
They’ve been successful in overtaking the mainstream media, Hollywood, and the universities, where PC culture has run amok.
But Megyn Kelly is pushing back on feminists’ attempts to destroy one longstanding American tradition.
Former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has had a rough couple of years. She first drew the ire of some people on the right when she attacked Donald Trump for his war of words with Rosie O’Donnell.
She then left Fox for NBC News, but her viewership didn’t. Kelly has toiled away with disappointing ratings and no strong fan base.
But Kelly struck a right note when she railed against feminists for trying to dismantle the Miss America pageant.
Recently, the Miss America competition, now run by fellow former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, selected to discontinue the swimsuit portion of the contest.
The move was cheered by feminists who abhor the concept of pageants and objective beauty standards, and lambasted by virtually everyone else.
Other members of the Miss America board of directors along with many former champions decried the end of the swimsuit segment.
Kelly’s comments aligned with the frustrated party:
“What’s wrong with showing women in bathing suits? They look amazing, they worked hard for it. They’re fit. I find it inspirational to see a very fit woman…The reality is, no one is going to want to watch the pageant. If you’re looking for the smartest woman in America, you should be at MIT, you shouldn’t be at Miss America, with all due respect…The people watch for the bathing suit competition, among the other pieces of it, but not to get a dissertation on whatever it is they are going to be talking about.”
Kelly is obviously correct. But more importantly, the women want to do it. They are proud to exhibit their fitness, as they should be. No one is twisting their arms, and the pageant has been a career stepping stone for many women, Gretchen Carlson included.
Kelly also astutely pointed out that feminists are perpetually at war with feminism. That’s why feminists attack cheerleaders and other professions where women may choose to display sexuality.
For example, the Formula 1 Grid Girls were discontinued after complaints from militant feminists. Many of the women complained that feminists just cost them a lucrative job that they loved.
But feminists don’t care. During the last several decades, feminism has gone from equality of opportunity for women, to ideological warfare and brute-force submission.
Several high school cheerleading teams have been forced to accept all girls trying out, which undermines the purpose of hard work, the feeling of achievement, and the ability to cope with disappointment.
These are values that used to be mainstream, but the left is always at war with tradition because they can’t remake society until they dismantle it.
Kelly’s comments on the matter, coupled with the pushback from former Miss Americas, could be a sign of a sea change in the culture.
The left has dominated culture for a long time, but they’ve gone wildly too far over the past few years. Similarly in the early 1990s, the political correctness movement was raging but was ultimately tamped down.
The divisive presidency of Barack Obama and social media have ratcheted up the PC rhetoric several notches. Leftists are completely comfortable spouting off extreme dogma that was once only acceptable in sparsely attended activist meetings.
Now they’re openly calling for the abolishment of borders and profit.
The left has gone too far, and the pendulum has swung the other way. As their craziness ramps up, they will drive more and more voters into Donald Trump’s arms.
