McCain has coasted on her recently deceased father’s coattails for her entire adulthood and there may not be a better use of the term nepotism in America right now.
But rumor has it the daughter of Sen. John McCain might leave the show unless this one thing changes.
Meghan McCain is the lone wolf on “The View.” She’s the only of the five co-hosts that is a conservative, even if she famously hates President Trump, who has consistently criticized her father.
Outside of dramatized reality television shows like the plethora of “Real Housewives of…” whatever, “The View” is one of the cattiest spiteful hours in any given day.
The ABC show features co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Meghan McCain and Abby Huntsman; and some of them obviously don’t get along but occasionally it gets to the point of massive on-air blowups at each other – particularly, the ongoing feud between McCain and Behar, and McCain and Goldberg.
That’s precisely the reason why Meghan McCain doesn’t want to return to “The View.”
In her words, the 34-year-old is “feeling like a caged animal,” which is ironic and tone deaf at best when you consider her father literally spent six years in isolation and was tortured as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
McCain is “emotionally drained, angry and isolated.”
A source close to her recently said, “It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week. If she doesn’t stay at ‘The View’, she will find other work.”
The show’s senior producer, Hilary Estey McLoughlin recently said of the situation, “We don’t want people to attack Meghan. We’re happy to have Meghan there. I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”
Nevertheless, McCain wants to return to the show but some changes need to be made first.
One of the changes is the alleged leaks about McCain from her fellow co-host Sunny Hostin. They believe it’s Hostin who said she’s been feeling emotionally exhausted from co-hosting the show.
Hostin’s team denied these accusations saying, “This is absurd, and I’m not surprised the source is anonymous, since defamation is actionable.”
Even ABC likes having McCain around as she continues talking contract extension and also doesn’t believe Hostin is the leak.
A spokesperson for ABC News added, “As evident on ‘The View,’ Sunny, an award-winning journalist and former federal prosecutor, never holds back and freely shares any and all opinions she has. She’s been a terrific addition to the table, a fierce and passionate advocate who brings smart and insightful analysis to every debate and discussion on the show. It’s been an incredible season, and we look forward to having her at the co-host table for an epic year ahead.”
All of this sounds like an unmitigated mess.
It’s like the overly dramatic gossip amongst high school students going on at the ABC show.
But who could be leaking this gossip about McCain? One possibility that should not be overlooked is that maybe she’s the one putting it out there. It would be kind of a genius move as she goes through contract extension talks. It’s a way for her to leverage to get the changes she wants while forcing ABC’s hand into agreeing to pay her as much as possible.
