The left fuels itself on outrage.
Where no problem exists, leftists go through painstaking efforts to take offense.
Now the angry leftist mob has its sights on Seinfeld for a ridiculous reason.
For better or worse culture tends to get edgier over time.
Iconoclasts push boundaries, then others follow suit.
The upside is complex television shows like The Sopranos, something unthinkable on television less than 30 years ago.
The downside is oversexed pop icons setting terrible examples for pre-teens.
But something bizarre is happening.
As the left is pushing for more transgressive cultural totems, they also have an odd Victorian streak.
Younger millennials now find harmless shows from the 1990s like Friends “problematic.”
They said it was homophobic and not diverse enough, among other complaints.
The latest show millennials now find troubling is Seinfeld.
If they saw any of Norman Lear’s shows from the 1970s, they would need a fainting couch.
According to the left-wing outlet Bustle, Seinfeld must be “canceled” because the characters are racially insensitive.
And the character ‘The Soup Nazi’ is suddenly not okay in 2018.
Someone should alert Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David they’re not allowed to use the word Nazi in their comedy.
The great irony is these comedies were created by liberals.
For example, Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman admitted to including a gay wedding in the show as a valentine to her gay friends.
But the authoritarian left doesn’t at all consider context.
Sadly, it’s expected that they’ll go after conservatives.
However, not even the left is safe anymore.
Anyone to the right of Chairman Mao is a fascist who must be silenced.
Coincidentally, Seinfeld saw this trend coming years ago.
He said he stopped performing at colleges because the kids are way too sensitive.
They’ve been bubble-wrapped so as to avoid any words or concepts that are “unsafe.”
Since Seinfeld’s prescient remarks about avoiding colleges, the university censors have gone mainstream.
One of the main reasons for that is the rise of Twitter.
Activists now sit around and dig through social media posts in hopes of finding something to mobilize the outrage mob.
That’s precisely what happened to comedian Kevin Hart.
One gay activist dredged up old tweets—tweets that Hart had already addressed and apologized for—to get Hart to bend the knee.
Unfortunately, the outrage mob won.
The only way to defeat the mob is to stand up to the onslaught of negativity and never apologize.
This strategy has served Donald Trump well in the face of unprecedented attacks by the media.
More celebrities should take cues from Trump and stare down the mob because if they don’t, it only emboldens the mob.
There’s no telling what this ravenous band of leftists will come for next.
