LeBron James has been the face of the NBA during a steep decline.
The league is losing popularity because of in-your-face politics.
Now James’s new movie Space Jam is garbage and fans are letting him hear it.
LeBron James has been celebrated by the corporate press for his hard-left turn into wokeness that began back in 2016.
One year prior, James said he didn’t have any negative interactions with the police and he would tell his sons to be respectful when dialoguing with a cop.
But after Colin Kaepernick’s anti-American anthem protest, James suddenly became political, and stumped for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.
James has gone on to say that black people are being “hunted” by killer cops, and he’s gotten praise in the media for his “activism”; James has defended the Chinese Communist Party and refuses to speak on China’s human rights abuses.
But not even the left-wing press could put lipstick on the pig that is his new film Space Jam: A New Legacy.
The film got a 32% and 36/100 on the review aggregator sites Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic respectively.
Fans don’t seem to like the movie, either.
The audience score is an abysmal 4.3/10 on IMDB (Internet Movie Database) and 3.1/10 on Metacritic.
UPROXX, among other outlets, gave the film a scathing review:
“Space Jam: A New Legacy is a bad movie. But you knew that already. You saw the trailers; you listened to the Notorious P.I.G. rap; you read the reviews and the bewildering plot synopsis that I will share again because I can’t get over how wild it is: ‘Set in a shared Warner Bros. virtual space multiverse, the film follows LeBron James teaming up with the Looney Tunes to win a basketball match against digitized champions to rescue his son from Al-G Rhythm, a rogue AI program.’”
Even on the sliding scale of being a silly movie for kids, it’s getting hammered.
UPROXX continued:
“My hope was that Space Jam: A New Legacy would at least be a fun hate-watch, a good-bad movie for the internet to dunk on (no pun intended). It’s been a while since we’ve had one of those. Maybe since Cats? But at least Cats had the decency to be weird. Space Jam: A New Legacy isn’t weird; it’s a soulless branding exercise.”
James seemed so perturbed by the deluge of bad reviews, that he tweeted an article about the movie winning at the box office:

However, Black Widow was going into its second week of release, so it’s not a major accomplishment for a $150 million movie with a massive marketing push to defeat it at the box office.
James seems more concerned with his brand and attacking Donald Trump than actually winning basketball games.
The Los Angeles Lakers lost in the first round of the 2021 Playoffs, the first time James failed to advance to the second round in his NBA career.
James was essentially criticized for mailing it in to close out the season.
Seems as though his mind may have been on his terrible Space Jam sequel.
