The NFL is under constant attack.
The anti-American anthem protests created the perfect opportunity for leftists to attack a sport they don’t like.
Now LeBron James jumped into the debate with one ridiculous statement about NFL owners.
“The personal is political” was a rallying cry of 1960s radicals, and unfortunately that ethos has spread in this day and age.
Leftists have sought to expand their reach to all avenues of life.
Ironically, escapism offers no escape from politics.
Sports is the most recent pillar under assault by the activist left.
There had always been a strain of politics within sports — some of it good — but the anthem protesters incited by Colin Kaepernick escalated matters with no de-escalation on the horizon.
The increased political temperature has spread to the NBA.
The Warriors twice refused to visit Donald Trump at the White House, coach Steve Kerr has pushed for gun control on many occasions, and Forward Draymond Green inserted himself into the NFL anthem debate by criticizing recently deceased Houston Texans owner Bob McNair.
When describing the hysteria over the anthem kneeling issue, McNair said: “we can’t have the inmates running the prison.”
People told Green “inmates running the asylum” is an old colloquialism, but Green said, “Figures of speech are not okay in 2017.”
Now LeBron James is following Green’s footsteps and attacking the NFL.
James first became political in 2016 when he actively campaigned for Hillary Clinton and appeared with her on stage at a rally in Ohio.
James later expressed his shallow insights on Trump, which prompted Fox News host Laura Ingraham to tell James to “shut up and dribble.”
Predictably, the mainstream media tried to brand Ingraham a racist, even though she clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and has used her “shut up” slogan against various entertainers, most notably the Dixie Chicks.
On James’s “The Shop,” a show that tries — and fails — to replicate barbershop debates, James said, “In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality.”
This is idiotic, especially considering James’ own league has “a bunch of old white men” controlling teams.
James continued, “And it’s like, ‘This is my team. You do what the f— I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all.‘”
That’s called running a business.
James has his own brand.
What happens to his employees when they go rogue and do things that hurt his company?
They probably have a lot less leverage than millionaire celebrity athletes.
James went on to praise the NBA while taking shots at the NFL, but James conveniently ignores the fact the NBA’s national anthem policy is far stricter than that of the NFL.
NBA players aren’t even allowed to sway or chew gum during the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner.
For all of James political whinging, he himself recently faced the PC mob when he posted a video of himself rapping a lyric that said, “We getting that Jewish money. Everything is kosher.”
James apologized, but he doesn’t seem to realize he’s helping to foster the authoritarian culture that would ban the music he likes.
He should take Ingraham’s advice.
