Hollywood is struggling to get people to go to the movies.
But Christian-themed projects have been able to find a loyal audience.
And faith-based filmmakers are teaming up with one Oscar winner for a big project.
At a time when many films cannot draw moviegoers to the theaters, Jesus Revolution has raked in over $45 million – far exceeding expectations.
The film tells the story of a Christian revival in the early 1970s started by young hippies in Southern California.
Now the Jesus Revolution filmmakers have announced a new project with two-time Best Actress Oscar winner Hilary Swank.
Kingdom Story Company announced on social media, “We’re thrilled to announce the newest film from Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate—ORDINARY ANGELS, coming to theaters October 13, 2023. Starring Hilary Swank and Alan Ritchson, ORDINARY ANGELS is the incredible true story of a struggling hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill young daughter. We can’t wait to share more with you in the coming months!”
Swank has been starring in films for 20 years and Alan Ritchson currently plays the lead in the Amazon Prime series “Reacher.”
Jesus Revolution co-writer Jon Gunn said, “The story of Sharon Stevens and the Schmitt family is a powerful reminder that helping others is how we heal ourselves…I can’t think of a message I’d rather share with the world right now, and I’m honored to be telling it with such a fearless and talented cast.”
Gunn also co-wrote Ordinary Angels and directed the film.
Swank said the film is a “powerful reminder that angels reside everywhere among us” and that “faith, hope, grit, and positivity are all powerful fuel for miracles.”
Swank won her first Oscar for the 1999 film Boys Don’t Cry, which has ironically been canceled by some on the “woke” left because Swank plays a transgender character when she isn’t transgender in real life.
Woke activists are essentially killing the acting profession – since actors are apparently only allowed to represent characters who are just like them.
Swank added, “It’s also a story about the power of organ donation — something incredibly near and dear to my heart…I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this story and message.”
Ritchson said, “I’m an optimist. I believe the best in people. I believe that sometimes we just need to be reminded of the power of what we can do together. This is why I was drawn to Ordinary Angels.”
Ordinary Angels is currently in post-production and also stars Nancy Travis (“Last Man Standing”), Amy Acker (“Person of Interest”), and Tamala Jones (“Castle”).
If Ordinary Angels also does well at the box office, perhaps Hollywood will be incentivized to make more faith-based content.
Clearly there is an audience out there looking for something different than the hedonistic fare that’s become so tired and overdone. trope
