The NFL is unabashedly terrified of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones right now.
Commissioner Roger Goodell must be shaking in his boots over the ban they implemented six weeks ago, then put on hold by a joint agreement by both the NFL and the NFL Players association, and also how Jones threw the hammer down on all of this delusional nonsense.
But the Cowboys owner just exposed one shocking secret about the NFL that goes to show you how dictatorial the commissioner can be.
Here is the timeline of events thus far.
- The NFL bans players from kneeling during the National Anthem six weeks ago.
- Last week, the Associated Press got a hold of an amendment to the Miami Dolphins’ new team policy that would suspend players for violating the rule.
- The next day, the NFL and the NFL Players Association agree to freeze the ban after outrage over the leaked AP’s leaked report.
- A few days ago, Jerry Jones thumbed his nose at the freeze and implements his own standing “toe on the line” policy and if his players disobey then they will no longer be Dallas Cowboys.
And now Jerry Jones just revealed that the NFL is forcing him to stay quiet on this issue.
The Cowboys owner made national headlines after his mutiny against the league office by establishing his own rules for his team, his employees.
The liberal sports media hysteria was as bad, if not worse, than Hollywood elitists freaking out over every single President Trump tweet on Twitter.
All of the big ones were dying for interviews with Jones to discuss the order of events and his position in great detail but he was forced to cancel all of his scheduled television and radio interviews.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Jones told them directly that he wouldn’t be able to interview any longer because the NFL warned him to stop talking about his newest National Anthem policy.
It’s a little surprising that Jones listened, although, it also wouldn’t come as a shock if Jones was playing some sort of long con, devious chess game with Commissioner Goodell.
After all, Goodell and Jones have a contentious relationship.
Goodell suspended Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot for six games due to a series of alleged sexual assaults from several years ago. But Elliot was never charged or indicted by the police for the same incidents so it kind of calls into question how the NFL arrived at their conclusion while the law found zero cause.
Jones and Goodell went back and forth to court for a long time before the commissioner eventually won the battle and Elliot served out his suspension towards the latter half of the season last year.
And then Goodell was up for a contract extension that would pay him upwards of $40 million per year and Jones stepped in to try and prevent the deal from going down.
But Goodell got his extension.
Now, Jones actually complied with the NFL’s wishes to keep quiet. It’s nothing short of bizarre how this has played out.
The good news is that Jones has President Trump behind him one hundred percent on the matter, which could be the slow play in retrospect.
Trump told Jones back in May, “Tell everybody, you can’t win this one. This one lifts me.”
Like it or not, Trump has injected himself into this situation, as he should do, because he’s defending all of those Americans who are deeply offended by these protests.
And after Jones declared his new policy, Trump tweeted, “Way to go Jerry. This is what the league should do!”
It’s not clear what it is but maybe this is part of the bigger plan.
