Cancel culture liberals are still on the warpath.
Nobody is safe from the endless mob of leftists.
Now a Hollywood legend is in hot water for one unbelievable reason.
Cancel culture has not yet shown any signs of abating.
Although more people have survived “cancellation” attempts by refusing to bend the knee to the mob, that hasn’t stopped the mob from trying to collect scalps.
The latest target is acclaimed actor Bill Murray, whose name is being smeared based on the vaguest of accusations.
The nebulous allegations caused production on Murray’s latest film Being Mortal to be shut down in order to investigate the claims.
CNN reported that “Fox Searchlight told the film crew in an email last month that the film was being shut down due to an unspecified complaint but didn’t confirm Murray was involved…The nature of the complaint has not been made public, but Murray said he had been thinking a lot about what happened…”
During an interview with CNBC, Murray shed a bit more light on the controversy, explaining, “We had a difference of opinion; I had a difference of opinion with a woman I’m working with. I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way…The company, the movie studio wanted to do the right thing. So they wanted to check it all out and investigate it and so they stopped the production. But as of now we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other.”
Based on the details provided thus far, that is a ridiculous reason to shut down a multi-million-dollar film production.
Murray continued, “You know what I always thought was funny as a little kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things change and the times change, so it’s important for me to figure it out…What would make me the happiest would be to put my boots on and for both of us to go back into work and be able to trust each other and work at the work that we both spent a lot of time developing the skill of.”
It’s shocking that Hollywood cancel culture has moved from horrific episodes of Harvey Weinstein forcibly raping women to Bill Murray telling a joke that didn’t land.
Coincidentally, the director of Being Mortal is liberal comic Aziz Ansari, who was the target of an absurd #MeToo scandal.
A woman essentially had a bad date with Ansari, then wrote about it.
For that, he was lumped in with rapists and serial harassers at the height of #MeToo hysteria.
The shutdown of his film production must be an especially painful punch to the gut.
Fellow actor Brian Cox, who stars in the hit HBO drama Succession, came to Murray’s defense and stated, “Bill Murray the other day, he made a remark and was taken in a way of being offensive. The picture he was making was stopped, the whole thing…Bill went on, I think it was CNN, and explained himself, I thought rather brilliantly, saying, ‘It’s about times that have changed. I grew up in one time and I am meeting another time and it is very hard to know how to approach that time’…Where do we go? How do we come in? Where is the entry way to make a conversation, to make even a joke with one another.”
People are walking on eggshells because the rules continue to change, and nobody is on solid footing.
