Progressives have a complete stronghold on Hollywood.
People can—and do—lose their careers for speaking out against leftist dogma.
But one survey just proved that America isn’t in line with the tastemakers in Hollywood.
In light of the Democrats’ despicable effort to railroad Brett Kavanaugh, pop icon Taylor Swift endorsed Tennessee Senate candidate Phil Bredesen, but he went down in flames to Republican Marsha Blackburn.
If anything, Swift’s endorsement had an adverse effect, as it whipped up support for the GOP.
People do not like being dictated to by celebrities.
They like being entertained by them.
And a survey by Morning Consult proved just that.
The numbers showed that audiences were most likely to watch a movie or TV show if one of the following were in it: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Will Smith, Jennifer Aniston, and Julia Roberts.
The key thing all of them have in common?
They smartly avoid discussing politics.
Most of the other top stars with public clout, the term used by the survey, also rarely wade into political waters.
Robert Downey Jr, Melissa McCarthy, Adam Sandler, and Chris Hemsworth avoid the soapbox.
Conversely, other high-paying actors who get overtly political saw a negative public clout score, meaning audiences were more likely to skip their films and TV shows.
Some of those were Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence, and Angelina Jolie.
Evans constantly spews his progressive politics all over Twitter, raging against Donald Trump.
Johansson appears in leftist PSAs, and she recently backed out of a movie role where she was set to play a transgender man because the activist left caused an uproar.
Instead of taking a principled stance, she stood in solidarity with the angry mob, and it killed the project.
That meant the story she felt was important wasn’t going to get made, and dozens of crew members weren’t going to have jobs.
Lawrence set a blowtorch to her “America’s sweetheart” persona by slamming the country in light of Trump’s election, and ranted about how climate change was going to destroy the planet.
It’s no surprise her last film Mother!, a heavy-handed allegory about mankind abusing the planet, sank without a trace at the box office and received a rare “F” audience score.
The disaster drove Lawrence into a movie hiatus.
Despite the evidence from this survey and the success of films that don’t overtly demonize half the country, Hollywood is moving even harder to the left.
In a conversation with writer Bret Easton Ellis, actor James Van Der Beek worried about the increasing air of McCarthyism among the Hollywood left.
Conservative actor James Woods lost his agent and film career over his public political views.
A film about Roe v. Wade had to be filmed in secret due to unhinged leftists vandalizing the set and harassing cast and crew members.
Ellis recited a study that showed 88% of Democrats are unwilling to have dinner with a Trump supporter, but only 12% of Trump supporters are unwilling to break bread with a Democrat.
And they say Republicans are the intolerant ones.
