Entertainment celebrities are required to toe the line.
Those who refuse to do so run the risk of getting “canceled.”
But a Hollywood actress stunned the “woke” mob in one sentence.
America’s culture of free speech is under constant assault from the Left.
Too many people still believe that the Left are the old-school liberals that upheld the value, necessity, and right of free speech.
But leftists are authoritarians, and authoritarians fundamentally do not believe in free speech.
This has become particularly clear on social media where far-left gatekeepers in tech are rigging algorithms and censoring people who do not echo all of the “woke” precepts.
That’s why it’s so refreshing when people tell the truth, which is what Hollywood actress Ana de Armas did.
De Armas recently starred as a Bond Girl in No Time to Die, the most recent installment in the 007 series.
When she was asked by The UK Sun about the prospect of a female Bond, she responded, “There’s no need for a female Bond…There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over…This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.”
Wow.
She said what so many people in Hollywood have been afraid to say.
Gender-swapping established characters has been a disaster.
De Armas added, “What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way…That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”
That is the correct perspective, not simply turning Bond into a woman.
Instead of building new characters, far-left activists want to leech off characters that already exist and are established.
That’s because they know new “woke” characters are flops with the fans.
Conversely, Chris Evans, who starred alongside De Armas in an ensemble cast in Knives Out, has completely bent the knee to the far left.
Evans recently wagged his finger at audience members who did not go see Lightyear, the spinoff of the Toy Story franchise, because of a lesbian kiss in the film.
Leftists always look to impose their will from the top down.
The biggest problem with gender-swapping characters is that it presumes men and women are the same.
That simply does not work with good storytelling.
For example, James Bond is famous for his womanizing.
Flipping the genders completely undercuts that element of the character.
The Left are also eager to see a “non-binary” Bond.
During a podcast interview, Barbara Broccoli, the producer who oversees the film franchise, was pestered about a non-binary Bond and she responded, “Who knows? I mean, I think it’s open. We just have to find the right actor.”
A non-binary Bond is absurd.
Anybody who identifies as non-binary and is a fan of James Bond accepts him for who he is.
Catering to this infinitesimally group is terrible business because they’re either already fans, or they never were.
