Late night comedy shows have sadly morphed into attack dogs for the left.
The only type of humor that’s permitted is aimed at Donald Trump and Republicans.
But one head writer quit a light night talk show for this Trump-related reason.
When Jay Leno hosted “The Tonight Show,” the comic largely avoided partisan politics, or poked fun at both sides.
Unfortunately, those days are gone.
Every late night comedy host must be left-wing.
Leno’s replacement Jimmy Fallon discovered that when Donald Trump won in 2016.
Fallon was rebuked by the left for having Trump on the show and conducting a cordial interview.
He was forced to issue a groveling apology for his transgression.
Now Fallon’s head writer is quitting the show because she’s tired of writing Donald Trump jokes.
Rebecca Drysdale, who’s assuredly a leftist, has Trump fatigue and believes that attacking him incessantly gives him power.

“Head writer Rebecca Drysdale is exiting her role on the show…In a private Facebook message obtained by the Chicago Sun Times, Drysdale explained that it was a mutual decision, after both parties agreed she ‘was not a good fit for the show…’
She also expressed relief at never having to write jokes or sketches about President Donald Trump ever again, saying that in her view, making fun of the President only serves to amplify his power…”
Fallon caught flak for not being political, now he’s getting grief for being too political.
He would’ve been better off sticking to his guns and producing the show he wanted to produce.
Drysdale wrote:
“I believe that comedy is a powerful tool. I believe that it can handle anything, no matter how unfunny. I don’t believe that making fun of this man, doing impressions of him, or making him silly, is a good use of that power. It only adds to his.”
When even people on the left are tired of Trump jokes, it might be time to move on and lampoon something else.
Late night comics have been thrust into the role of political commentators over the past four years.
They serve as the shock troops for the Democrat Party, firing salvos at the party’s preferred targets.
In the past, mockery and abuse from the news and entertainment media was enough to get Republicans to cower, but many of them have grown a spine in the age of Trump.
Fallon’s capitulation to the “woke” left isn’t going to stop, either.
He was forced to apologize for a blackface sketch he did on “Saturday Night Live” years ago, several months after Megyn Kelly was fired by the same parent company for simply talking about blackface.
Kelly got the last laugh because she received the full $66 million she was owed, and started her own media company.
Fallon is still under the thumb of the machine that will determine what is and isn’t allowed.
If Joe Biden is successful in claiming the White House amid widespread voter irregularities, the so-called mainstream media and Hollywood will be forced to find some new material.
