The intersection of sports and politics is driving away fans looking for escapism.
Nearly every major sports league has had to deal with the problem.
And a former star pitcher crushed Major League Baseball for one huge political blunder.
The MLB caved to pressure from Democrats and their media allies.
Joe Biden told a disgusting lie about a new voting law in Georgia, calling it “Jim Crow on steroids.”
Organizations bent the knee to the “woke” mob and decried the voting law even though it expanded voter access.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred ignored the evidence and moved the league’s 2021 all-star game from Georgia.
Ironically, Manfred moved the game from Atlanta to Denver, a city with comparable election laws.
The move also cost local Atlanta businesses over $100 million in lost revenue.
Three-time World Series champion southpaw David Wells was disgusted by Manfred’s move as well as other political posturing that’s taken over sports.
“I don’t watch baseball anymore,” said Wells during an interview on The Brian Kilmeade Show on Fox News Radio.
Wells added:
“I’ve had a lot of dealings with Rob Manfred back in my playing days, and I never liked the guy. I thought he was a bit odd. He never understood anything. To me, how do you change the games, the dynamics, and hurt a city like Atlanta that really needs some income in that situation? I mean, Atlanta’s a great place to play baseball.”
Wells was also disturbed by the politicization of the sporting world, particularly the anti-American anthem protests that originated in the NFL with Colin Kaepernick.
Nike was only one of the corporations that graced Kaepernick with lucrative deals.
Wells said:
“It’s [Kneeling for the national anthem is] disrespecting our flag, it’s disrespecting our military guys, and I don’t stand for it…I grew up in San Diego, a military town, so to me, Nike — I took everything I had Nike, threw it in the trash. I got rid of it all. I don’t want it, I don’t condone these types of things … If I was playing right now, Brian, I would not wear that Nike. I would rip it off. I would cut a hole in my jersey and not have Nike on anything, and if I got suspended, so be it.”
While athletes denigrate America, they say nothing about human rights abuses in China.
In fact, former Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey nearly lost his job for tweeting tepid support for pro-Democracy protesters in Hong Kong.
Players like LeBron James and James Harden ran to China’s defense because the NBA and major shoe companies are in bed with the Chinese Communist Party.
The same goes for the major movie studios who rely on the massive Chinese audience.
All of the virtue-signaling left conveniently ignores China because America is an easy target.
Tearing down America is profitable in the eyes of the Democrat Media Complex.
That’s why Wells and so many others are done with professional sports.
