Have you ever read a news story lately that made you do a double take? You have to rub your eyes to make sure you read exactly what you thought you read?
Then when you finally confirm the headline is what you thought it was and you conclude you must be living an alternate reality like something out of the Twilight Zone?
Well, you read that headline right. Felicity Huffman’s daughter MAY retake the SAT’s following the college admissions scandal.
Actress Felicity Huffman – known for “Desperate Housewives” and “When They See Us” – was sentenced to 14-days in prison, 250 hours of community service and a $30,000 fine for her role in the college admissions scandal. She will be serving out her two-week sentence on October 20th.
The 56-year-old actress paid a proctor who administered SAT tests $15,000 to alter her daughter’s score so she would have a better chance at being admitted into an elite university. It’s the kind of rich Hollywood privilege that makes the rest of our blood boil.
Now, Huffman alleges that her daughter knew nothing about the transaction, which means her SAT scores would likely be considered null and void considering the circumstances, right?
The rules state that the daughter, Sophia Huffman, would have to know her mother was intending to manipulate the system and thus proving that she cheated in order to be prohibited from taking the SAT again.
If there were sufficient evidence that Sophia knew then she would be suspended from taking the exam for six months per the rules of the test set by the College Board.
However, the College Board did rule on Sophia’s case and gathered there wasn’t sufficient evidence to act out that scenario, which means she’s free to take it again if she’d like.
But it was framed in a way that they actually thought Sophia could use that test score, as in, the original score before it was so-called “corrected.” Of course she has to take the test again in order to get into college. Is anybody really considering this?
At her sentencing with Sophia and William H. Macy (Felicity Huffman’s husband) in the courtroom, Huffman said, “I can only say I am so sorry, Sophia. I was frightened, I was stupid, and I was so wrong. I am deeply ashamed at what I have done. I have inflicted more damage than I could imagine.”
In the meantime, Huffman has been the joke of Hollywood.
She was lambasted at the 2019 Emmy Awards in downtown Los Angeles last weekend.
The producers of the awards ceremony did an odd thing this year, on top of going host-less for the event, where they had comedic actor/writer Thomas Lennon (“Reno 911”) sit at a desk and add commentary.
At one point before a commercial break, Lennon said, “The producers have asked me to give a special shout-out to any of our previous lead actress winners who are watching tonight from prison. Hopefully, those two weeks are gonna right fly by. Keep your chin up.”
It was one of the funniest moments of the whole night considering they threw her under the bus in that light.
But the one person in Hollywood who is reportedly jealous of Huffman is actress Lori Loughlin who is facing up to forty years in prison for her role in the college admissions scandal. Loughlin is apparently kicking herself that she didn’t take the original plea deal offered by the prosecutors.
14 days for Loughlin would be a walk in the park compared to what she’s facing.
