Marvel has been reeling in top-acting talent to take a part in their enormous movie universe for many years.
And why wouldn’t top actors want that job? The pay is top notch, they reach worldwide audiences consistently, and it’s guaranteed job security for many years to come.
But Marvel just pulled off a head-scratcher by casting Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2, leaving many fans baffled and confused.
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
“Josh Brolin has nabbed the hotly contested role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
“The production has been on the warpath to find the right actor for the role for months, with Michael Shannon almost nabbing the role and Stranger Things star David Harbour on the shortlist. (There were even rumors of conversations with Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt.)
In the end, Brolin emerged as a surprise contender, notching his second Marvel Comics character in the process; the actor plays the villain Thanos in the Marvel Studios movies. Sources say Brolin’s deal is for four films.
David Leitch is directing the sequel to Fox’s surprise blockbuster, with the movie heading toward a June production start in Vancouver.
Reynolds is reprising his role as the wisecracking mercenary, with the story expanding to include other characters from Deadpool’s corner of Marvel’s X-Men universe.”
But there’s only one problem.
Josh Brolin is already playing Thanos from Guardians of the Galaxy and is going to have a major role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
Now, technically, he’s playing two different villains in two different universes.
Ryan Reynolds immediately called out the move on Twitter.
The fuck, Fox! You can’t play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. pic.twitter.com/AQCRp1aWKg

The rest of the Twitter universe also made fun of the odd move.

I don’t know why Josh Brolin thinks he can be Thanos AND Cable but I guess rules don’t apply to these Hollywood types.

But one made a good point and called out the haters of the decision.
If Eddie Murphy can play a whole fat family in 1 movie Josh Brolin can play 2 Marvel Characters in different movie franchises #CalmDownNerds

However, there is one thing everyone is overlooking.
Deadpool’s gimmick is about breaking the 4th wall and being self-aware he’s in a movie right?
So, that means Deadpool is going to be aware of Brolin playing two villains in two different universes, right?
So, before you jump to conclusions and judge the move, imagine the comedic gold they’re coming up with right now.
