As Mugatu (Will Ferrell) says about Hansel (Owen Wilson) in the hit movie “Zoolander,” “That Hansel… so hot right now.”
There’s no question in anybody’s minds right now that Keanu Reeves is the hottest thing in Hollywood right now and was recently suggested to be the “internet’s boyfriend.”
And now fans are petitioning for Keanu Reeves to receive this ultra high honor.
Keanu Reeves is having an extraordinary year with his hit movie “John Wick 3: Parabellum” destroying it in the box office. He’s playing a role in the upcoming highly anticipated video game “Cyberpunk 2077.”
Oh, not to mention, they just started production on the new “Bill and Ted” movie. Reeves has handled all of this recent success with the utmost grace and humility. It’s something people have noticed for decades, but it has never been more noticeable than it is right now.
Now fans are petitioning for him to be 2019s Man of the Year given out by Time Magazine and has already reached a staggering 50,000 signatures.
The petition on Change.org says, “Keanu is the most wholesome person alive, make him the person of the year. Keanu has secretly donated millions of his earnings to children’s hospitals and other charities, and has done amazing things for people in public while ask [sic] for nothing in return.”
It’s true. Reeves has that carefree genuine disposition about him that is truly infectious.
The irony being that he’s not that great of an actor either but that’s okay because America has grown to suspend their disbelief when it comes to his performances. Granted, his acting isn’t always bad but he’s not incredibly gifted either. Call Reeves serviceable but his likability trumps any performance he gives.
The best part is how he seems to be oblivious to all of this. On the red carpet for “Toy Story 4” an interviewer asked him about how felt about being the internet’s boyfriend and he was absolutely confused by it asking, “what?” When she explained it to him; Reeves laughed and simply said, “That’s wacky.”
Also, Keanu Reeves isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
Apparently, Marvel is vying for him to be part of the MCU.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently sat down with Comicbook.com and was asked why he didn’t put the “Speed” actor in one of his blockbusters and responded with laughter admitting, “We talk to him for almost every film we make.”
Feige added, “I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the (Marvel Cinematic Universe), but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”
That would be amazing to see him play a superhero but addressing the elephant in the room, and speaks volumes about Reeves as a person, is that it means he’s turned Marvel down many times before.
Nobody in Hollywood turns down Marvel. Any actor would be unbelievably fortunate to play any role in the MCU. But not Keanu Reeves.
