The corporate press is doing everything it can to divide the country.
That might even apply doubly for sports media.
And an ESPN reporter made an insane comment about the American flag.
Everybody knows that news media leans to the Left.
But it’s less known that sports media is arguably to the left of news media.
In 2016, a higher percentage of sports journalists voted for Hillary Clinton than did news journalists.
One example of far-left sports journalism is long-time ESPN contributor Bill Rhoden.
During an appearance on CBS This Morning, Rhoden took several shots at America and capitalism overall.
Rhoden said:
“I love the opening ceremonies, march of countries…Then I realized, you know, man, particularly after these last four years, I had it wrong. Nationalism is not good. We’ve seen the rise of White nationalism. Nationalism is not good.”
If Rhoden doesn’t like nationalism, then he must despise the Olympics.
He must hate when small foreign nations celebrate rare victories on the world stage.
The Left—along with globalist elites—has tried to tie nationalism with white nationalism, which is absurd.
It wasn’t white nationalism that propelled Jesse Owens to Olympic glory in 1936 in Berlin with Adolf Hitler in attendance.
Globalists and the international Left have long been exasperated by the nation state.
Billionaire philanthropist George Soros once remarked that national sovereignty was the greatest obstacle to his agenda.
Rhoden continued, “And also, this whole idea — I keep thinking back on the Capitol riots, and I saw a lot of, you know, U.S. flags.”
Rhoden is attacking the U.S. flag by tying it to the rioters who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, and he’s not alone.
New York Times columnist Mara Gay said she felt terror when she saw American flags waving from trucks on Long Island during Memorial Day weekend.
This anti-American strain has been encoded in the hard Left for a long time, but it’s creeping into the mainstream.
Countless athletes have protested the American flag and the national anthem for the past five years.
Rhoden continued by saying that America needed to be “humbled” on the world stage:
“I think we should be humbled. You know, I mean, this whole last year in this country — it’s about entitlement and privilege. Nobody epitomizes that more than basketball…We’re just supposed to win [in basketball]…Across the board, we just need some humility.”
The U.S. men’s basketball team lost twice during the exhibition round and lost again in the first round, but has rebounded to advance to the quarterfinals.
Rhoden concluded by attacking capitalism:
“Of course, they should have canceled the Olympics…but our highest value now is money. Everything is being driven by money. So, they’re telling fans, athletes, roll the dice because we are going forward…We should not hold these events, but I know that horse has left the stable.”
If Rhoden had his way, all sporting events would remain locked down forever.
The hysteria over COVID has become insane.
The Left’s ugly vision of the world is gaining ascendancy, and it’s positioning everything, including the Olympics.
