Most Americans had never heard of actor Jussie Smollett until he forced his way into headlines nationwide claiming that he had been jumped, beaten, on the streets of Chicago by Make America Great Again “MAGA” President Trump supporters.
After an investigation by the Chicago Police Department, they discovered that Smollett allegedly concocted this story out of thin air in order to reportedly receive a higher per-episode salary for Empire while simultaneously demonizing MAGA supporters.
Now Jussie Smollett just got exactly what was coming to him but there’s a catch.
His claim made national news, grabbing sympathy from many Hollywood elitists who jumped to far-reaching conclusions that all Trump supporters are violent and hateful.
But it turns out that Smollett hired two African immigrants – both had worked on Empire at some point – to stage the attack. Smollett even paid them by way of check in the amount of $3,500.
Consequently, he was arrested and charged for a litany of different crimes for his false reporting.
Then on Thursday, Smollett was indicted by a Chicago-area grand jury for 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct.
The most serious of his charges is for filing a false police report, which is a Class 4 felony, the least serious of all possible felony charges, but it still carries a sentence ranging from one to three years in prison and fines up to $25,000.
The other additional disorderly conduct charges each carry up to four years in jail or probation.
That means it’s extremely likely that the actor will plead down the filing a false police report charge and they would drop all of the disorderly conduct charges.
Meaning: Smollett likely won’t serve any jail time.
If it was some average Joe facing the same charges, it would likely result in the same thing according to former Cook County prosecutor Andrew Weisberg who said, “Almost nobody would go to prison on a class 4. I would be surprised if he got [prison] time.”
He’ll probably end up getting probation.
But when you take into account the damage his actions had on the current political climate in America, it would be an atrocity to see him walk away with a slap on the wrist.
The one saving grace is that given this is such a high-profile case, whoever the judge is that presides over it might not be so lenient.
It’s amazing that liberals bought into this story so blindly without letting all the facts come out first before they jumped to conclusions.
The idea that a group of violent Trump supporters would recognize an actor from Empire and then spontaneously beat the heck out of him is incredulous in itself because they’re not even close to that show’s demographic, let alone, not being one of its main stars.
They would never have recognized him and even if they did, they’d resort to such violence like that out in the open in downtown Chicago?
The reason liberals believed it because they wanted to. Pure and simple.
