Ellen is one of the biggest daytime talk shows on television.
She usually doesn’t user her show as a political platform to criticize President Trump (although it’s clear she does not support him).
But that’s why DeGeneres shocked everyone when she used her show to insert herself into the NFL anthem protests.
The NFL season is upon us and you can expect players to kneel during the National Anthem before the game.
Commissioner Roger Goodell gave these players a choice; they could either hide in the locker room or stand at attention for our nation’s song. Otherwise, face a fine or possible suspension.
ESPN and CBS also announced that they will not air the pre-game tradition unless it’s a major holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas.

The problem is that everyone believes they are entitled to give their opinion about this whole fiasco.
That includes senatorial hopeful Beto O’Rourke.
O’Rourke became a national “sensation” when he said, “And I can think of nothing more American,” about those players who kneel toward our national symbol.
And Ellen DeGeneres made it a point to invite him on the show because of that viral video.

I would like to meet you, @BetoORourke. https://t.co/rz0XAKbH5w

Just like that. She snaps her fingers and voila, he appears.
He will appear on Ellen on the Tuesday after Labor Day.
O’Rourke is now the darling of the Democratic Party after that viral video.
And he will challenge Sen. Ted Cruz’s Texas seat in November.
Cruz only leads by one single point.
Cruz was another one who responded to O’Rourke’s claim about the anthem-kneelers.
He said, “When Beto O’Rourke says he can’t think of anything more American, well, I got to tell you, I can.”
That senate race will be particularly interesting.
It’s not so odd that DeGeneres invites politicians on her show.
Of course, former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama both appeared on Ellenin the past.
Obama also awarded her the Medal of Freedom award in the twilight of his presidency. It’s safe to say that DeGeneres’ allegiance is to the Obamas.

DeGeneres also had Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton on as guests. However, all of them are Democrats. Republicans are not invited on. https://offthewire.com/this-california-senator-crossed-a-lethal-line-against-trump/
With that said, her simple tweet that she wants to meet O’Rourke means she agrees with him about the protests.
That’s not shocking at all.
It is obvious that she supports these players right to kneel.
What all of these people don’t get is that it’s not how it works.
Wherever you stand on the anthem protests, these players are employees. They don’t get to make up the rules.
Freedom of Speech and the right to protest is protected under the Constitution from the government.
It does not apply to you while you’re employed.
Imagine if that happened everywhere you went. You go to your favorite coffee shop and they’ve staged a political protest.
You go out to your favorite restaurant and the wait staff does the same thing.
An employer has every right to fire them for this kind of behavior.
And that’s precisely why Cowboys owner Jerry Jones created his own team rule that his players will all stand with their, “toe on the line.”
No Cowboy will play unless they stand. It’s that simple.
That’s how it should be done.
