Democrats’ hatred of Fox News knows no bounds.
They can’t stand that a counterpoint to their leftist perspective exists.
But the box office for a recent hit piece on Fox News’ architect Roger Ailes could signal that moviegoers don’t share the left’s thirst for his blood.
Leftists hold two beliefs that are leading to a growing division in the country.
First, leftists believe that they are right, and anyone who opposes them is not wrong, but evil.
Second, leftists believe their views are actually centrist, and anyone who disagrees is a “far-right extremist.”
The first fallacy gives them the moral agency to use any tactic in the book against their political enemies.
Brett Kavanaugh highlighted this during his impassioned defense before the Senate Judiciary Committee; he called out Democratic senators for branding him as “evil.”
The second fallacy allows the left to demean any contrary viewpoints as propaganda and misinformation.
Enter Fox News.
In a sea of left-wing media bias, Fox News is the one network that hews to the right, and Democrats can’t stand it.
They label Fox News state-run media but handled Barack Obama with kid gloves for eight years.
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews even said he got a “thrill” up his leg listening to Obama speak.
The left has gone after Fox News in various ways, including campaigns to go after the channel’s advertisers.
None of those methods have worked, as Fox News remains the most popular channel on cable television.
But the left is relentless, and their latest effort to weaken the network is through film.
The documentary “Divide and Conquer” was an attempt to put a spotlight on the deceased Roger Ailes and the sexual harassment allegations that led to his ouster.
However, the documentary got some bad news when it opened to a paltry $18,883.
But there’s more.
The feature film “Fair and Balanced” also tackles the Ailes controversy, and includes a star-studded cast; Charlize Theron is playing Fox News exile, Megyn Kelly.
Leftist let Kelly play in their sandbox when she was going after Donald Trump, but they never truly accepted her.
Kelly learned the hard way that leftists identify a target, then find the “crime” later.
“Fair and Balanced” will be anything but, as it is being directed by Jay Roach, whose last theatrical film was a communist apologetics about Dalton Trumbo.
The film was originally being produced by Annapurna, but the company dropped the project due to irresponsible spending on niche films.
Annapurna was an oasis for indie filmmakers who sought biggish budgets from company head Megan Ellison for their passion projects, but Ellison’s father—Republican billionaire Larry Ellison—took away his daughter’s credit card.
Lionsgate is now picking up the slack for the bloated “Fair and Balanced,” but if the Ailes documentary is any indicator, people aren’t hungry for leftist propaganda.
But leftist propaganda is exactly what the people will get.
Yet another Roger Ailes project is in the works as a limited TV series at Showtime with Russell Crowe in the lead.
Another interesting barometer for how these Ailes projects might fare is the upcoming film “Vice,” a hit piece on former Vice President Dick Cheney.
The left-wing intelligentsia has already rallied around the movie and fêted it with sterling reviews and multiple Golden Globe awards.
But the left is in the midst of rehabilitating George W. Bush in order to malign Donald Trump as the new Republican Hitler.
“Vice” might be a decade too late.
