“Woke” corporations have been imposing their will on American citizens.
Disney might be the worst of all.
And Disney just heightened its war with Ron DeSantis with one jaw-dropping move.
Disney just took a big shot at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The Mouse House is suing DeSantis on flimsy grounds of retaliation for political speech.
Over the past few years, corporations have been throwing their weight around in order to push far-left policies on the American people.
That even goes for Disney, whose brand is traditional values and family-friendly entertainment.
Disney protested DeSantis’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which simply prohibited public school employees from engaging in classroom discussions regarding sexual orientation and gender identity in grades K through 3.
The bill was so reasonable, a majority of Florida Democrats supported the legislation.
DeSantis has since pushed to extend the legislation to 12th grade.
After Disney attempted to subvert the will of the people, Florida Republicans moved to take away Disney’s special privileges.
Decades ago, Disney was given a special provision to self-govern the Reedy Creek district near Orlando where Disney World sits.
No other business in the state has such a deal.
But Disney is taking DeSantis court because they’re losing the special provisions to which, again, no other Florida businesses have access.
In a court filing, Disney alleged that DeSantis was embarking on a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.”
If Disney wants to use its massive influence to engage in politics, then it stands to reason that the state should not give the company special political privileges.
As DeSantis recently explained, “Disney has gotten away with special deals from the state of Florida for way too long. It took a look under the hood to see what Disney has become to understand their inappropriate influence truly.”
Unsurprisingly, Democratic politicians have been punishing businesses for years over politics.
Several municipalities have refused to permit Chick-Fil-A to have restaurants operating in their city because CEO Dan Cathy once personally expressed traditional marriage views.
Disney was furious that DeSantis didn’t immediately fold after their political offensive in light of the Parental Rights in Education bill.
DeSantis had said at the time, “I also think that you have companies like a Disney that are gonna say and criticize parents’ rights, they’re gonna criticize the fact that we don’t want transgenderism in kindergarten and first grade classrooms. If that’s the hill that they’re gonna die on, then how do they possibly explain lining their pockets with their relationship from the Communist Party of China? Because that’s what they do, and they make a fortune and they don’t say a word about the really brutal practices that you see over there at the hands of the CCP.”
Meanwhile, higher-ups at Disney have talked at town halls about their “not-at-all-secret gay agenda.”
Disney executive producer Latoya Raveneau revealed, “Our leadership over there has been so welcoming to like, my like, not-at-all secret gay agenda…I was basically adding queerness to the show, if you see anything queer in the show, ‘The Proud Family,’ nobody would stop me and nobody was trying to stop me.”
This is not what the people of Florida want.
