Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is one of the most famous owners in all of sports because of his background before he bought the team.
Cuban famously became a self-made billionaire when he sold Broadcast.com to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in 1999. Now, he’s one of the hosts of ABC’s “Shark Tank” where they decide which new inventions to invest in.
But just recently Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban said something shocking about which Democrats could defeat President Trump in 2020.
The Democratic nomination field is loaded with many average or inadequate candidates.
Amongst them are former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris, Beto O’Rourke, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana. There are approximately fourteen others and who knows who’ll come out on top a year from now.
Liberals are divided on who’s the best candidate to defeat President Trump in 2020.
Currently, Biden leads the pack, followed closely behind by Sanders (although he’s rapidly losing young voters according to new polls), with Warren and Harris being neck-and-neck.
And Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban said this week that no current candidate seeking the Democratic nomination has a legitimate shot at beating Trump in 2020.
During a phone interview with CNBC on Tuesday, Cuban was asked which of the field of over twenty has the best shot and he simply answered, “Nobody right now.”
Cuban also claimed, “If you look at why people voted for Donald Trump, in my opinion, first and foremost it was because he wasn’t a politician.”
This is the Bernie Sanders effect as well and why both Trump and Sanders were so popular. They both represented opposite sides, but both promised to shake up Washington D.C. in a big way.
Cuban added, “Politicians are the least trusted of every profession.” But the mainstream news media is quickly catching up to “the least trusted of every profession.”
The Mavericks owner also lamented that the process of determining which Democrat could bust out of the pack was way too early. But then he also said there could be someone to surge from the middle, ie as an Independent.
The self-made billionaire could be talking about himself with the last comment. Cuban has entertained the idea of running for president – even against Trump in 2020 – as an independent rather than Democrat or Republican. The last independent to win the presidency, however, was Millard Fillmore of the Whig Party in 1850.
Cuban concluded, “We’ll see what happens. It would take the perfect storm for me to do it. There’s some things that could open the door, but I’m not projecting or predicting it right now.”
It’s too early to tell who will come out on top of the Democratic Party but Biden and Sanders are losing traction quickly. Liberals want a fresh face and they literally don’t embody that.
So, Cuban probably won’t escape that controversy if he decides to run.
