The so-called mainstream news media have been exposed as irredeemably biased toward the Left.
And sports journalism is shockingly slanted even more to the Left.
Now one conservative sports writer just made one stunning announcement.
A survey on the 2016 election showed that a greater percentage of sports journalists voted for Hillary Clinton than did news journalists.
Since then, sports and sports journalism have only drifted further to the left.
That’s why conservative sports reporter Bernard Goldberg was squeezed out at HBO’s “Real Sports.”
Goldberg won eight of his 14 career Emmys for his reportage on “Real Sports,” but he recently announced he was leaving the show.
Goldberg wrote in a mailbag column:
“From time to time some of you have commented on my work on the HBO program Real Sports. I just quit the show after 22 years working there as a correspondent. There are more than a few reasons for my decision, but for now, let’s just say I lost interest in the work. I may have more to say in the future.”
The announcement came after Goldberg had been increasingly marginalized by his progressive colleagues and editorial overseers.
“Real Sports” spiked one of Goldberg’s pieces on transgenderism in sports.
From Awful Announcing:
“Later in September, Goldberg’s segment on transgender athletes was abruptly pulled from airing amidst growing backlash on his handling of the topic and the participants in the segment. HBO termed the segment as ‘postponed.’ But many suspected that was just a convenient PR spin and perhaps this signaled the beginning of the end of Goldberg at Real Sports, with the growing rift of the show’s progressive editorial direction and Goldberg’s dissenting conservative politics now fully exposed to the public.”
Goldberg routinely pushed back on the show’s persistent message of systemic racism and injustice.
Goldberg was a life-long liberal who ruffled feathers on the Left 20 years ago when he wrote the book “Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News.”
For years, he deflected being labeled as a conservative, but eventually accepted reality, writing in 2020:
“I see myself as a conservative with live and let live principles…a conservative libertarian I guess. Now, even when I agree with liberals on this issue or that, I no longer want to be on their team. I not only don’t accept their new left wing politics, it’s also their holier than thou elitism that annoys me. I no longer see myself as a liberal. They left me, not the other way around. Now, I’m a conservative. Not a right-wing nut, just a conservative with libertarian tendencies.”
Goldberg’s story is all too familiar.
Many conservatives began on the Left, but saw the Democrats drift further and further away underneath their feet.
The modern Left has gone insane, and it was too much for Goldberg to stomach.
Media bias has gotten considerably worse since Goldberg called it out in 2001, and “Real Sports” can now go full “woke” without Goldberg there as a counterweight.
