There is no filter on the left.
Every single radical far-left policy is seemingly on the table.
But a comic called out one insane proposal that would bankrupt the country.
The radicals are steering the ship of the Democratic Party.
No idea is too insane to be dismissed out of hand.
One crazy proposal that has taken hold on the left is reparations for slavery, which is preposterous considering no slaves or slave owners are alive.
The logistics of who would pay reparations and who would be eligible to receive them is a nightmarish snarl.
Despite all of that, the reparations debate was reignited by far-left author Ta-Nehisi Coates.
And loony liberals in California are considering the proposal.
From The New York Times:
“A nine-member Reparations Task Force has spent months traveling across California to learn about the generational effects of racist policies and actions. The group, formed by legislation signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2020, is scheduled to release a report to lawmakers in Sacramento next year outlining recommendations for state-level reparations…While the creation of the task force is a bold first step, much remains unclear about whether lawmakers will ultimately throw their political weight behind reparations proposals that will require vast financial resources from the state.”
The proposal would cost California $569 billion, paying each black resident $223,200.
While many Democrats have been cheerleaders for the proposal, comedian and actor Faison Love, who starred in the hit comedy Friday, was not as enthused.
During an interview when Love was asked about the topic, he joked, “F*ck that. That’s another trick man — you know why? Because that money’s gonna go right back to Cadillac and right back to motherf*cking [Mercedes] Benz.”
Comedian Dave Chappelle made a similar consumerism joke about reparations in an episode of his hit comedy sketch show.
Love argued for black people to be tax-exempt instead of receiving reparations.
Ron Paul would be heavily in favor of such a proposal if it were applied to all American citizens.
The federal income tax was permanently enshrined by Woodrow Wilson in 1913, and it has ballooned from a top rate of 7% to 39.6% today.
During World War II as well as the 1950s, the top tax rate was shockingly over 90%, although almost nobody paid it.
The New York Times continued:
“Californians eligible for reparations, the task force decided in March, would be descendants of enslaved African Americans or of a ‘free Black person living in the United States prior to the end of the 19th century.’ Nearly 6.5 percent of California residents, roughly 2.5 million, identify as Black or African American. The panel is now considering how reparations should be distributed — some favor tuition and housing grants while others want direct cash payments.”
This would be an impossible mess to untangle because of commingled ancestry, people migrating from other countries, means testing, and other headaches.
But that isn’t the point.
The point is to keep grievance politics alive and well.
