The anti-American anthem protests instigated by Colin Kaepernick did considerable damage to the NFL.
In the meantime, the mainstream media lauded him and turned him into a modern-day freedom fighter, all while advocating for his return to the league.
But there’s one team that leftists don’t want Kaepernick to join.
Colin Kaepernick has been busy since going unsigned by all 32 NFL teams.
Countless left-wing media outlets and organizations showered him with praise and accolades for his choice to kneel during the Star-Spangled Banner.
He signed a lucrative book deal, starred in a controversial Nike ad, and has been approached about various film and television projects.
Since his separation from the league, Kaepernick maintains that he wants to be back in the NFL.
However, he bungled two opportunities by obliquely bad-mouthing the people in position to give him a chance.
He retweeted a comment that was critical of Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll after a tryout, and his girlfriend tweeted a picture that compared Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti to a slave owner while the team was considering signing him.
Any time a starting quarterback job opens up due to injury, leftists react with ghoulish intrigue in hopes that the team will sign Kaepernick.
The latest team to get hit with the quarterback injury bug is the Washington Redskins, who lost Alex Smith to a gruesome leg injury.
Coincidentally, Smith is the man Kaepernick usurped with the San Francisco 49ers when Smith missed a game due to a concussion.
Kaepernick cheerleaders want him in Washington, and reports say he’s willing to play for the team.
But there’s one problem.
Left-wing activists detest Washington because of their Redskins moniker.
The Department of Justice under Barack Obama even tried to have the Redskins trademark removed, even though the overwhelming majority of Native Americans polled don’t find the name offensive.
Some say Kaepernick would destroy his credibility as a “social justice” icon, particularly because of increased sensitivity around Native Americans.
The mainstream media first laid cover for her and acted as if her test was vindication against Donald Trump.
But Native American tribal leaders and far-left progressives pushed back on her insulting claims, which caused the mainstream press to retreat.
An ugly intersectional battle could break out if Kaepernick signed with the team.
Leftists would have to find a way to support Kaepernick while tapdancing around their qualms over the team’s nickname.
However, they may be spared the mental anguish of potentially being on the wrong side of “woke.”
Redskins’ GM Bruce Allen is a conservative, and some speculate he would not sign Kaepernick under any circumstances due to his radical leftist politics.
Beyond that, Kaepernick could be locker-room cancer, and his skill set may not be a good fit for many teams.
Even Kaepernick ally Richard Sherman made the latter point.
If the Redskins somehow signed Kaepernick to finish out a season that’s quickly circling the drain, it would certainly be a media circus.
