The hyper-politicization of sports has been a terrible development.
Sports used to serve as escapism from politics and other everyday struggles.
And Colin Kaepernick could be back in the NFL for one reason no one saw coming.
Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick ushered in the “woke” era of sports.
If not for his kneeling during the national anthem, players wouldn’t be forced to virtue-signal and agitate for leftist policy goals.
And after doing considerable damage to the NFL’s brand, Kaepernick could soon be back in the league.
According to reports, there’s speculation that the Seattle Seahawks could sign Kaepernick, especially if the team trades star quarterback Russell Wilson.
Wilson has made it clear that he prefers to be traded and even gave a list of trade targets, but the team likely isn’t in any hurry to oblige him.
If they do, that could open the door for Kaepernick.
From NBC Sports:
“There’s something else the Seahawks could do, if they trade Wilson,” [Mike] Florio said. “They could finally give Colin Kaepernick (who is only one year older than Wilson) a full and fair workout, undeterred by the possibility that Kaepernick would divide the locker room on the question of whether he or Wilson should play. (In 2017, given the lingering presence of veterans who resented Wilson, that was a very real possibility.)”
Florio and the “woke” sports media have desperately been trying to get Kaepernick back in the league, which isn’t surprising because sports journalists are even further left than political journalists.
A survey showed that over 96% of sports journalists voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Kaepernick signing with the Seahawks would be ironic because he insulted head coach Pete Caroll in 2017 after the team didn’t sign him.
Carroll has since issued a mea culpa on the whole ordeal.
Carroll said, “I regret that that didn’t happen in some fashion…I wish we would have contributed to it because he deserved to play.”
Since then, Kaepernick has only become more radical and more lionized by the left-wing intelligentsia.
Kaepernick has been given awards and lucrative deals with Netflix, Disney, Penguin Random House, and Nike.
He also gave oxygen to the Marxist Black Lives Matter movement that aims to “dismantle” the American capitalist system.
However, there’s a lot of speculation as to whether or not Kaepernick even wants back into the league.
He’d lose credibility as a martyr if he opted back into the supposedly oppressive NFL.
Kaepernick would also undoubtedly become a distraction.
Former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson organized a workout for Kaepernick to showcase his skills to NFL teams, but Kaepernick did not like the terms, so he blew it off and set up his own workout at a different location.
If Kaepernick can’t get through a workout without a media circus, getting through an entire season would be an impossibility.
