CNN continues to be a complete mess.
The network is stuck in last place among the top cable news outfits.
And a CNN host went on a comedy late-night show and stunned the host with one statement.
Ever since Discovery merged with Warner Media, news subsidiary CNN has been under the microscope.
Discovery board chairman Robert Malone felt that CNN had become too ideologically left-wing, and he wanted to see some semblance of objectivity restored.
Chris Licht, former executive producer for Stephen Colbert’s late night show, has overseen CNN’s transition, and it has been a rocky road.
One of Licht’s first moves was to demote Don Lemon from primetime host to morning co-host, although Lemon denies that the switch was a demotion.
Lemon appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show to discuss the CNN, and he dropped one line that even took Colbert by surprise.
Colbert asked, “The word on the street is you guys aren’t allowed to be liberal anymore? Is that the case?”
Lemon replied, “I don’t think we ever were liberal.”
The answer was so shocking, Colbert sharply replied, “What?”
How nice of Lemon to provide a dash of humor to Colbert’s DNC advocacy show.
Lemon doubled down, answering, “Yes, I don’t think we ever were liberal.”
Colbert responded, “That’s not me saying that. It’s the people out there saying [Licht is] not letting you be liberal anymore.”
Lemon continued, “I think what Chris is saying is that he wants Republicans, sensible Republicans, he wants us to hold people to account, but he wants people to come on and feel comfortable with coming on and talking on CNN, and appearing on CNN. So if you invite someone in your house, you want to make them feel comfortable. But, also, by the nature of what we do, we have to hold people to account. And so that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going liberal or conservative or whatever. It just means we are doing what we do, and that’s good journalism.”
However, Lemon blew up his own argument; if Republicans weren’t “comfortable” on CNN, why weren’t they comfortable?
Obviously, it’s because CNN became the Orange Man Bad network, and any Republican that wasn’t a Never Trumper was venturing behind enemy lines.
Everybody knows that, but it’s hilarious that Lemon is disputing that reality.
Last year, conservative commentator Jeffrey Lord wrote:
“So here is the headline that opened the week. CNN fires conservative CNN commentator Rick Santorum. Shocking? Nope. Rick Santorum, a former Senator from Pennsylvania, can now be added to this list of names: Corey Lewandowski, Scottie Nell Hughes, Paris Dennard, Ed Martin, Jason Miller…And, oh yes, yours truly. What do we all have in common with Rick Santorum? All of us have been ‘quietly dropped’ from CNN as commentators. And in my case there was actually nothing “quiet” about it. And oh yes, there’s something else we all have in common. To a person we are all conservatives and – gasp! – Trump supporters.”
CNN’s left-wing tilt is understood by everyone except Don Lemon, it seems.
