Attacks on religious liberty are escalating.
That’s particularly true in left-wing bubbles like the entertainment industry.
And a Christian actress had one colleague quit for an unbelievable reason.
Christian actress Candace Cameron Bure has been under constant attack from the left for weeks because of expressing views about traditional marriage.
Bure began working for the Great American Family network and mentioned in a Wall Street Journal interview that movies for the network would focus on traditional marriage.
That unleashed a torrent of backlash against Bure.
Now one of her colleagues at Great American Family is quitting.
Actor Neal Bledsoe wrote in a message, “My life wouldn’t be where it is today without the love, support, and guidance of the LGBTQIA+ community…As someone who struggled as a young man with our society’s extremely narrow definition of masculinity, it was their community that provided me with refuge and a guiding light when my life felt lost. And now, if I cannot stand up for that community in their time of need, my debt to them means nothing…So, I want to be very clear: my support for the LGBTQIA+ community is unconditional – nothing is worth my silence or their ability to live and love freely in a world that we are lucky enough to share with them…As an artist, I yearn to be proud of the work I create. But, the thought that my work could be used to deliberately discriminate against anyone horrifies and infuriates me…I hope GAF will change, but until everyone can be represented in their films with pride, my choice is clear. I look forward to working with creators who put no limits on the stories we tell and follow through on their message of values with open arms.”
Bledsoe’s melodramatic exit from the company exemplifies just how intolerant the left has become.
LGBTQIA+ activists said they simply wanted tolerance.
Now that they have achieved tolerance, they demand compliance.
So every movie company must include gay relationships in their stories, otherwise they’re labeled bigots.
This is how the left has operated for decades.
Bure pushed back to the initial backlash against her, writing, “All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people. It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone. It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever. I am a devoted Christian. Which means that I believe that every human being bears the image of God. Because of that, I am called to love all people, and I do. If you know me, you know that I am a person who loves fiercely and indiscriminately. My heart yearns to build bridges and bring people one step closer to God, to love others well, and to simply be a reflection of God’s huge love for all of us.”
The country is inching closer toward making the practice of religion literally an act of illegal discrimination.
