Chelsea Clinton seems to be in a race with her mother over who can alienate people the quickest.
That said, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Hillary has hit the “it wasn’t my fault” television circuit hard and fast, but Chelsea’s twitter endurance has kept her in the race.
And Chelsea continues to prove her online presence is just as grating as her monotonous, vocal-fry register.
Chelsea recently sent out a tweet that caused quite a stir.
From TruthRevolt.org:
Hope on #WorldMenstrualHygieneDay, you’ll read my friend Marni’s piece on ensuring women’s & girls’ safety & dignity https://t.co/WfYHjAgabt
— Chelsea Clinton (@ChelseaClinton) May 28, 2017
Yes, that happened.
Sam J. on Twitchy wrote, “Dear God, make it STOP! We get it, Chelsea feels the need to remain somehow relevant now that her mother was embarrassed in the 2016 presidential election but c’mon, even she must know this is just … gross. Yes. It’s gross, and that’s coming from a female Twitchy editor. You’re welcome. “Look, we’re sorry that women around the world have issues with their periods but this isn’t necessarily something we need a freakin’ day to raise awareness about. “Having your period sucks. There, the end. Awareness raised.”
[Vanity Fair writer T.A.] Frank warned Democrats not to sink too much energy into Chelsea. “Increased Chelsea exposure is tied closely to political despair and, in especially intense cases, the bulk purchasing of MAGA hats.” Which, of course, means that Republicans should be rooting this former First Daughter on. Now, what were you saying about menstruation, Chelsea?
Looking further into Menstrual Hygiene Day, it appears to have been incepted in 2014.
From the MenstrualHygieneDay.org website:
VISION To create a world in which every woman and girl can manage her menstruation in a hygienic way – wherever she is – in privacy, safety and with dignity.
MISSION Menstrual Hygiene Day will help to break the silence and build awareness about the fundamental role that good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) plays in enabling women and girls to reach their full potential.
PARTNERSHIP Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global platform for partners across all sectors to engage in action, advocacy and knowledge-sharing around menstrual hygiene management.
So apparently, privileged progressives are going to join forces and tackle a biological phenomenon that’s existed from time immemorial.
Further examining MHM, here’s a look at the article Chelsea linked to in her tweet:
From TheConversation.com:
Millions of girls and women are displaced and on the move right now globally – and the Trump administration’s proposed drastic cuts to humanitarian aid will have a major impact on these girls’ and women’s health. An especially important but often overlooked issue is one of the most basic parts of life for women – menstruation. This routine part of female life is a pronounced burden for women in low-income countries and those who are displaced. It disrupts many girls’ abilities to participate actively in school, potentially consigning them to second-class status for the rest of their lives. A lack of easy access to adequate toilets in schools or elsewhere can also place them at higher risk for sexual violence as they seek out safe places to manage their menstruation and other sanitation needs.
If MHM sounds like another issue surreptitiously rolled up into the grander progressive agenda train, it is.
And Chelsea Clinton is all too happy to hop aboard, inducing eye-rolls from both the left and right.
