Charlie Sheen used to be the television’s highest paid star in 2011 on “Two and a Half Men,” but that came to an abrupt end when the show’s producers fired Sheen for a slew of reasons like his habitual drug use and erratic behavior. His reported salary before he was fired was $1.8 million per episode.
In the last eight years Sheen hasn’t done a whole lot other than making guest appearances on several television series like “Anger Management” and “The Goldbergs.”
But “Dancing With the Stars” came knocking on Charlie Sheen’s door and he had a funny response as to why he declined the invitation.
Dave Chappelle famously returned to standup comedy in 2017 with three different new specials and the first one entitled “The Age of Spin” the comedian joked about him being on “Dancing with the Stars.”
After candidly discussing his absence from the industry for nearly a decade, Chappelle said, “Yeah. Yeah, it was a tough time. And I wanted to give up sometimes. I almost did give up, but then, right before I gave up, I decided not to. But I made the call. They answered the phone. ‘Hello? Dancing with the Stars.’ I said, ‘Not yet. Not yet.’ Yeah. If you see me on that sh-t, it’s over. Trust me. My spirit is broken. If you see me waiting for them judges… getting critiqued on my cha-cha.”
The point is that “Dancing With the Stars” is a last ditch effort for celebrities whose careers have become stagnant.
That’s probably the reason why the show’s producers hired former Press Secretary Sean Spicer to join the show for this season who suddenly appeared at the Golden Globes a couple years ago.
Charlie Sheen could’ve been competing with Sean Spicer on Season 28 of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” but ultimately turned down the gig.
The 54-year-old actor told Us Weekly that he was all set to start rehearsing alongside professional dancer Cheryl Burke, but decided to step away from the project just before the season premiere.
The funny man said, “I was very flattered by ABC and their offer, but at the end of the day, I have two left feet and I just can’t dance.”
They don’t last but it’s always funny to see a celebrity who can’t dance to make a fool out of themselves on the show. It was probably the right decision.
But reports have surfaced recently that Sheen is going broke. The “Wall Street” actor was once worth nearly $150 million but is now close to homeless given his exotic lifestyle. His mortgage payment on his Beverly Hills mansion is outrageous and is said to owe more than $86,000.
Earlier this year, it was reported Sheen was trying to sell the $8.5 million house but hasn’t had any luck doing so.
That’s probably why he seriously considered doing the show in the first place. Sheen might be un-hirable in Hollywood because he’s uninsurable due to his past drug usage, but he also revealed recently that he’s been clean for over a year now claiming his daughter was the main factor why.
It looks like Dave Chappelle’s joke has become Charlie Sheen’s reality.
