The Democratic Party is in complete disarray right now. Have you seen the CNN Democratic debates this week? These candidates are at each other’s throats about who is the best person to defeat President Trump in 2020. It’s hilarious to see them grapple with this.
They’re feeding right into Trump’s hands and they have no idea. The more they talk about him; how they can defeat him, the more he wins.
And NBA legend Charles Barkley just dropped a nuclear bomb on the Democratic Party this week.
Charles Barkley is one of the biggest anomaly NBA legends of all time.
He was the NBA MVP in 1993. Barkley was an eleven-times NBA all-star. The undersized power forward was one of the best to ever do it and also was a member of the iconic 1992 USA Olympics “Dream Team.” He also never won an NBA championship during his career. Now he’s a multi-Emmy Award winning broadcaster for TNT.
And Barkley isn’t really a big fan of the Democratic Party and has barked at them many times throughout his career because he’s a no-nonsense kind of television personality and that’s indicative of what he says on TNT about other NBA players.
Barkley doesn’t buy in to the popular narrative and that’s why he is so insightful when he talks. And he’s a fighter for African American rights in this country.
One of those examples is what he said about the most recent CNN Democratic debates. Granted, he did criticize all political candidates, regardless of party.
Barkley told Yahoo News recently, “I think all politicians take black folks for granted. They talk to black folks every four years and that’s about it … and then do nothing about it. Both parties suck in that aspect.”
He was referring to the first CNN Democratic debate that featured front runners Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
But the pandering from these Democratic candidates so far has been insufferable and that’s what Barkley is pointing out.
When asked about who of the ten candidates he thought did well on the first night, Barkley said, “It’s an economic thing … and that’s what both parties have been neglecting, especially the Democratic party. Every black person I know has always voted Democratic and, with the exception of a few guys who can play sports, all those people are still poor.”
But there’s a bigger message that Barkley was trying to point out and it’s about how television is not the best medium to get politics across to anybody.
He said, “You can’t really judge anybody by seeing them on television, especially when you’ve got twenty people. Nobody gets a word in edgewise. That’s really unfortunate.”
The CNN debates were some of the most liberally biased in quite some time. Anchors Jake Tapper, Dana Bash and Don Lemon attempted to drill the candidates but it was clear it turned into an anti-President Trump affair amongst the candidates and between the liberal anchors early on.
But Barkley got even deeper with how he felt when he said, “I think all politicians take black folks for granted. They talk to black folks every four years, and that’s about it and then do nothing about it. Both parties suck in that aspect.”
Keep in mind that African American unemployment is at the lowest in generations and yet somehow Trump and the rest of the Republican Party are to blame?
He also noted, “You can’t really judge anybody by seeing them on television, especially when you’ve got 20 people. Nobody gets a word in edgewise. That’s really unfortunate.”
It’s perplexing that many voters don’t see the forest for the trees with what Barkley is discussing.
Barkley also attacked CNN by saying, “We can do a much better job [of the debates], especially CNN. We could do a much better job of doing like an individual night where we have plenty of time.”
Maybe these CNN Democratic debate candidates are delusional and it’s great that an NBA legend like Charles Barkley recognizes this and sees the forest through the trees.
