LeBron James has used his celebrity status to attack Donald Trump on numerous occasions.
In a recent interview, James blamed the president for the current level of divisiveness in the country.
But a prominent conservative commentator just tore James to shreds with one statement.
Early in LeBron’s career, he made the statement he wanted to be a “global icon.” The comment caused some people to raise their eyebrows because most players would focus on team-oriented goals like winning a championship.
But for LeBron, his brand has always been the most important thing. Winning titles was simply a necessary achievement to solidify his global brand.
LeBron abandoned the Cleveland Cavaliers—the team nearest to his hometown of Akron, Ohio—to chase rings with the Miami Heat.
LeBron suffered a deserved wave of backlash for the weak move to form a superteam elsewhere. LeBron returned to Cleveland four years later to rebuild his legacy of tarnishing it by fleeing the state of Ohio.
Now that LeBron dutifully did his time in Cleveland, he felt free to go to Los Angeles where he could elevate his brand even more.
Another aspect of LeBron’s persona that needed to be cultivated was his political activism.
Celebrities get major brownie points for regurgitating left-wing talking points, no matter how nonsensical they sound.
LeBron entered into the political arena in 2016 when he unsuccessfully stumped for Hillary Clinton; she ended up getting creamed in Ohio after being up in the polls before LeBron shared a stage with her.
Since hitching his wagon with Hillary’s loser campaign, Lebron has now sought relevance on the political stage by attacking Trump.
LeBron has called Trump a “bum,” and recently went after him again in a disgraceful interview with CNN host Don Lemon.
During the interview, LeBron made the tone-deaf statement that it felt like society was regressing toward slavery and Jim Crow.
America is the freest and most prosperous country in world history, but the left must constantly demonize it, otherwise, they would have no purpose.
LeBron also said Trump was trying to use sports to “divide” the American people.
LeBron’s statement was preposterous, and conservative radio host Larry Elder blasted him for it.
Elder said the following on his show:
“If Trump is using sports to ‘kind of divide us’ to quote LeBron James, what the devil has Colin Kaepernick done, and the players who followed suit? Is it Trump who forced Colin Kaepernick to a knee?…“I find it mind-boggling that not only does [James] criticize Trump for suggesting players ought to stand, but he’s accusing Trump of trying to divide America…Most Americans, by the way, believe that players ought to stand. Most American support Trump on this issue…I agree with what LeBron James said that sports is about fun…Especially if you are a paying customer and you are coming to a sporting event and all of a sudden a civil rights protest breaks out. What is that?”
Elder is completely correct. Trump isn’t dividing America. The left is.
Leftists are fundamentally anti-American, which is why they venerated Colin Kaepernick and have supported any policy or foreign enemy that weakens America.
Sports and other cultural events have been unifying forces and agents of change in the country. But kneeling during the Star-Spangled Banner is not unifying.
It was never supposed to be. It was the calculated act of a strident anti-American leftist.
Elder also pointed to other incidents where the left has intentionally divided the country.
In 2006, after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill said that George W. Bush left people to die in New Orleans because they were poor and black.
In 2012, Joe Biden spoke to a black audience and said, “Republicans want to put y’all back in chains.”
These comments by prominent figures in the Democratic Party show how divisive and underhanded the party is.
LeBron James should perhaps look on his side of the aisle before blaming Donald Trump for any divisive rhetoric.
