Left-wing celebrities have become some of the worst spokesmen for “woke” culture.
Their hatred of Donald Trump has exposed their authoritarian beliefs.
Now one anti-Trump NBA legend is calling for a disturbing form of censorship.
NBA Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has become a “woke” ambassador in his old age.
He’s written eye-rolling op-eds that parrot the talking points of the social justice left.
In one piece, he made a nonsensical comparison between Donald Trump and the Nazis in the television show “Hunters.”
Now Abdul-Jabbar wrote a piece for The Hollywood Reporter that affirms cancel culture.
He believes that celebrities should be socially punished for opinions that are outside his scope of allowable onions.
In the opinion article, Abdul-Jabbar attacked famed Harry Potter author JK Rowling because of her “hateful” belief that men cannot become women.
Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) December 19, 2019
Abdul-Jabbar said of Rowling:
“[H]er anti-trans tweets may not only damage the Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises, they could end up tainting her entire literary legacy. Even the stars of the movies — Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Eddie Redmayne — have spoken out against her position. John Cleese’s tone-deaf defense of Rowling left many fans bitterly disappointed, tarnishing his reputation.”
First, Abdul-Jabbar “canceled” John Cleese during his cancelation of Rowling.
And he used young Hollywood stars speaking out against Rowling as some sort of proof that her position was untoward.
This is ludicrous.
Hollywood is toxically left-wing; it means nothing for actors to publicly toe the party line in order to stay in the good graces of the left.
Also, the ironic crux of Abdul-Jabbar’s is that people shouldn’t veer outside their sphere of knowledge.
He wrote, “Great success in one field can lead to the delusion that all your thoughts are great.”
That presumably would apply to him as well as the actors who called out Rowling.
But Abdul-Jabbar was probably one of the first people to call out Fox News host Laura Ingraham when she told LeBron James and other athletes to “shut up and dribble.”
Abdul-Jabbar also pushed for censorship of people who spread “lies” about COVID-19, which would seemingly include any medical professionals who have gone against the grain.
A few years ago, Abdul-Jabbar surprisingly came to the defense of Bill Maher and free speech after the host made a bad joke on his show.
Abdul-Jabbar’s progression into a censorious authoritarian shows that the left can never go left enough.
