Don’t worry; the “Game of Thrones” final season train has almost passed through.
This Sunday marks the finale of the final eighth season of the big-budget fantasy show, but most of the show’s loyal fans are furious with how the story and character arcs played out.
And that’s why angry “Game of Thrones” fans are demanding HBO do something unprecedented and ludicrous with the hit show’s final season.
People are usually satisfied with their shows endings like for instance, “Breaking Bad,” which arguably had one of the best conclusions for one of America’s most infamous fictitious crime lords in Walter White.
ABC and JJ Abrams’ “Lost” also had a divisive conclusion to the series because instead of explaining whether the island’s makeup was rooted in religion or science as they went back and forth with throughout – they made an ambiguous thematic point that it was about the journey and the characters rather than the aforementioned.
Some of the things fans have been disappointed by in “Game of Thrones” were how anti-climatic and easy it was for Arya to kill The Night King in “The Long Night,” the rushed conclusion of Jaime Lannister’s arc, the lack of catharsis and convenience of evil Queen Cersei’s death, and the (arguable) abrupt shift from Khaleesi into The Mad Queen.
It was launched on Change.org – where petitions are rarely taken seriously and also go to die – after “The Bells” episode ran on Sunday night and garnered over 16,000 signatures within hours.
But would HBO be willing to consider it?
A rumor has spread over the past week that HBO was willing to back up a truck full of money and give showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss more money for more episodes so they could wrap up story and character arcs effectively – so they wouldn’t feel they were rushing it. But they said, “nah we’re good. We’ll stick with six episodes.”
The petition, started by Dylan D. bluntly says, “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense.”
They really, really hate how this season has played out.
But would HBO entertain this idea? There’s zero chance it happens. And even if HBO did want to fork over the $200 million-plus bill to recreate the last season, it’s likely there are some actors vital to the show that would never go for it.
Actor Kit Harington who plays Jon Snow has already said he won’t play another character like that again. They’re actors and they want to do something different.
This is just wishful thinking if these angry fans think this petition will have any effect.
