Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has yet to take responsibility for the death of a crewmember.
All of his actions since then have been about covering his own hide.
And Baldwin made another move to deflect blame for the horrible thing he did.
Alec Baldwin must answer for the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins that occurred during the filming of the western Rust.
During an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, Baldwin says he never pulled the trigger even though the gun was in his hand.
Firearms experts say Baldwin’s account does not add up, and it definitely cannot explain why he had a loaded gun in his hand.
Baldwin not only had possession of the gun, but he was a producer on the film.
Now Baldwin is attempting to sway public opinion to his side.
During the Christmas holiday, he said in an Instagram post that he was seeking spiritual guidance:
“The one thing I do want to consider very carefully in this coming year and really push myself is in terms of trying to not allow the negativity in my life to affect me. I’ve been having some very interesting phone calls with some very interesting people who I will not name but some of them rather well-known people who deal in all kinds of behavioral, philosophical, religious, spiritual, meditation, all kinds of ways to attain a state of mind where you really short circuit all of the negative in your life.”
Baldwin has been careful not to accept responsibility for Hutchins’s death publicly.
Even in his Instagram video message, he described her death as something that simply happened:
“I’ve had more people who have been kind and thoughtful and generous in spirit than I’ve had people who are malignant about the death of Halyna Hutchins…I’m not afraid to say that, to couch it in some euphemism. Somebody died very tragically. I’ve gotten so much goodwill from people. It’s just incredible. And a kind of alarming amount of the other stuff.”
“Somebody died very tragically” is reminiscent of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar describing 9/11 as “some people did something.”
Other actors have come forward and said that Baldwin should have been more cautious.
During a podcast interview, George Clooney said:
“I’ve been on sets for 40 years and the person that hands you the gun, the person that is responsible for the gun is either the prop or the armorer, period…Now every single time I’m handed a gun on the set, every time they hand me a gun I look at it, I open it. I show it to the person I’m pointing it to, I show it to the crew. Every single take you had to go back to the armorer when you’re done…You do it again and part of it is because of what happened to Brandon [Lee], everyone does it. Everybody knows and maybe Alec did that, hopefully he did do that.”
Baldwin is currently being sued by crewmembers for negligence, and he’s still not out of the woods regarding criminal charges.
Unlike other Hollywood scandals, this one is going to stick for a long time.
