The majority of Americans are sick and tired of the anti-American anthem protests.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell finally changed the policy after he saw his league suffer a massive decline in viewership and advertising revenue.
Now a new report suggests Donald Trump might’ve had a hand in helping the NFL rescue itself.
According to sworn testimony, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly said Trump warned him that the anthem protests were a losing issue for the NFL. Trump is of course right. Most Americans respect the flag.
Unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick created a fissure within America when he chose to disrespect the country by kneeling during the National Anthem.
Kaepernick claims his protest was about police brutality against people of color. Millions of people assumed the protest was fundamentally anti-American.
Mainstream media and the activist left quickly rushed to Kaepernick’s defense, rejecting the notion the protests were unpatriotic.
However, Kaepernick’s own words belied that point. He explicitly stated he wouldn’t stand for a flag and a country that “oppresses” people of color.
The ironic thing about Kaepernick’s protest is that it was relatively moot. Barack Obama’s Department of Justice had already been investigating police shootings of black suspects in light of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.
Attorney General Eric Holder reported there was no proof of wrongdoing in the Brown case, yet the false “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative persists to this day.
More broadly, police shootings of unarmed black suspects is quite rare considering America is a nation of over 325 million people. A Harvard study showed the police were more likely to use lethal force against a white suspect than a black one.
However, leftists feed off of crisis. They scour the country in search of flashpoints to use politically. Bad police shootings are reprehensible and tragic when they occur, but the left would have the country believe they’re a widespread pandemic.
When examining the data, Kaepernick’s protest doesn’t make sense unless there’s an anti-American agenda behind it.
This is the truth Donald Trump understood and intimidated to Jones.
From The Wall Street Journal
“This is a very winning, strong issue for me,” Mr. Trump said in a phone call, according to a sworn deposition given by Mr. Jones and reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. “Tell everybody, you can’t win this one. This one lifts me.”
The left’s narrative that America is horrible and must be protested in grotesque fashion isn’t a winning argument.
According to a Washington Post poll, the percentage breakdowns of groups who believe anthem protests are never appropriate are as follows: 53 percent of Americans, 86 percent of Republicans, 51 percent of independents, and 29 percent of Democrats.
Unsurprisingly, Democrats are the least patriotic group in the country. What the left doesn’t understand is that it’s possible to be socially conscious and critical of problems in the country without desecrating America.
It should also be mentioned that anthem protesters are indignant about their “right” to disrespect the American flag.
If players want to raise awareness and bring about change within communities, they have social media accounts, press conferences, publicists, and charitable foundations. Kneeling for the anthem is uncalled for, especially after Kaepernick’s initial protest that sparked the so-called discussion the players want to have.
And on a practical level, whether intended or not, kneeling for the anthem is no longer about battling police brutality.
Finally, some players have grumbled about continuing their anthem protests, which would evoke a fine from the league. Wouldn’t that money be better-spent than going into the league office’s coffers?
