Leftists have been aggressively attempting to polarize the United States.
The anti-American anthem protests in the NFL have morphed into a battle cry for liberals hoping to sow seeds of rancor because of their disdain for Donald Trump.
But the Stanley Cup champions made a patriotic statement that put left-wing media and protesting NFL and NBA teams to shame.
Ronald Reagan began the tradition of honoring professional sports teams at the White House for their championship-winning accomplishments.
Since then, almost all players have attended the apolitical ceremony without incident. It was understood by most professional athletes that the White House and the office of the presidency were bigger than one man in power at the time.
However, leftists have completely shattered that bipartisan treaty in the era of Donald Trump.
Several teams, including the most recent NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors, have said they refuse to go to the White House because they dislike Trump and his policies.
The Super Bowl Champions Philadelphia Eagles were disinvited after playing bad-faith games with White House personnel; the Eagles would not confirm visit arrangements with the White House until the last minute, even though they never had any intention of going.
Meanwhile, the mainstream media are more than happy to affirm this type of behavior. Far-left ESPN host Max Kellerman has routinely discouraged players from attending the White House because he believes Trump must not be “normalized.”
Enter the Washington Capitals.
The Capitals have been the NHL’s poster child for “close, but no cigar.”
They have constantly ventured into the playoffs with a high seed, only to underachieve in heart-breaking fashion.
But this year the Capitals finally broke through and claimed the elusive Stanley Cup.
The Capitals have wasted no time celebrating with the hallowed trophy, and prominent players on the team have said they intend to visit the White House if invited.
Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik made a cogent argument for why he and his teammates are going to the White House:
“Whether teams go or they don’t go, for me, personally, and again a lot of people might disagree with this, it’s not you endorsing whoever is in there or supporting whoever is in there. The White House is a very historical, special place in this country and I think it’s an honor to go to the White House.”
Oprik’s statement is obviously true, but that’s not the way leftists think. They are obsessed with Balkanization and power.
To a leftist, one can’t visit the White House out of curiosity, gratitude, or respect for the office. Instead, someone who visits the White House is “normalizing” wrongthink and supporting a “fascist” agenda that must be met with #resistance.
The left is forging a path of political divisiveness that is rampant in third-world countries. In many parts of the globe, being the wrong complexion, or being part of the wrong tribe, or believing in the wrong God can be fatal.
America is unique in that it has instituted the melting-pot concept better than any other nation. The left wants to unravel that ideal.
They want to pit black people, brown people, gay people, trans people, women, and any other “marginalized” against one particular enemy: straight white males.
Conservatives believe in the concept Americanism, i.e. the rights of the individual are tantamount. Anyone from anywhere who believes in American ideals and abides by the law can be an American.
Leftists believe in “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need,” and multiculturalism, which sounds like a nice word, but in practice essentially means hostility toward the host Western nation.
Multiculturalism is a one-way street. There is no multiculturalism in Saudi Arabia.
This is the left’s vision for America. This is why the left tears down all American symbols with such fervor.
The White House visit isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it’s yet another plank of Americanism that the left is prying away.
Fortunately, the Washington Capitals aren’t having any of that.
