Sports journalism has deteriorated into hot take opinion “experts” who also throw around their disdain for President Trump as much as they possibly can.
If you want proof, look no further than ESPN for your daily dose of sports “analysis” with a side-order of Trump-hating.
But this time is was a Fox Sports 1 talking head that made a terrible comment about White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and minor league baseball player extraordinaire Tim Tebow.
All of these sports panel programs are some of the worst shows television has to offer.
Fox Sports 1 Undisputed with co-hosts Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless might not be as bad as ESPN’s First Take, but it’s only marginally better – and that’s not saying a whole lot.
In fact, Shannon Sharpe recently called Sarah Huckabee Sanders a liar while calling Tebow a terrible athlete in the same breath.
Tebow has had a great stretch over his last 10 games in AA minor league baseball. His batting average is a staggering .323, with one homerun and 7 RBI.
Undisputed’s moderator Alex Curry rattled off his stats, which brings his season total to .257 batting average, with 5 homeruns, and 30 RBI. And, more importantly, he was also just recently named to the AA Eastern League All-Star Team. That’s impressive.
Well, apparently, Curry’s tone while reading this story to the co-hosts seemed annoyed and eye-rolling.
That’s when Sharpe mockingly proclaimed to Bayless, “Alex didn’t want to read this. Alex [is] up here talking like, ‘Y’all got me up here like [Sarah] Huckabee Sanders up here lying. You got me wanting me to believe that Tim Tebow deserves to be in the All-Star Game.’ Skip, you know he doesn’t!”
But Sharpe barked up the wrong tree at that moment because Bayless is a Tim Tebow superfan.
Like most of America, Bayless jumped on the Tim Tebow bandwagon when he made an impressive run as the Denver Broncos quarterback during the 2011-2012 season.
Tebow replaced Kyle Orton in week five and finished the season with a six-game win streak. That 8-8 record was enough to grab first place in the AFC West where they hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers in the divisional round of the playoffs.
And it became one of the most shocking upsets in NFL playoffs history.
Everyone underestimated Tebow every single week throughout the season. Almost every single analyst gave him and the Broncos a zero chance of accomplishing this incredible feat.
But only Skip Bayless truly believed in the devout Christian and called him the “It” factor on multiple occasions.
In 2015, he actually went as far as to say that Tim Tebow was a more clutch player than Tom Brady.
The subtext of the segment on Undisputed where Sharpe and the moderator were irritated by the topic was because they knew that the Tebow-loving Bayless handpicked this particular story.
Despite he and Sharpe being co-hosts, Bayless is top dog and what he says goes.
But Sharpe’s ridiculous comparison to Sanders was way over the line.
This is a classic case of forcefully infusing politics into sports. It wouldn’t be surprising if half the audience switched the channel after her comment.
