The anti-American anthem protests continue to divide the country.
Kneeling players have perpetuated a disgusting victimhood narrative that the mainstream media is happy to indulge.
But one NFL analyst took the issue too far and unleashed a racist rant against the new anthem policy.
Cris Carter was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2013 after a prolific career as a wide receiver.
Carter was known for his exceptional feet, seemingly always able to tap both feet inbounds on sideline and end zone passes.
However, Carter stepped way out of bounds when he took on the NFL anthem controversy during a talk with young black students in New York City.
Carter ripped the NFL, team owners, the police, and white America in general.
“We’ve been accepting guys who have been convicted of murder … but now you’re telling me I can’t exercise my right as a United States citizen?”
Carter clearly needs a refresher course in civics. The players’ rights are not being infringed upon. Freedom of speech protects against government force, not company policy.
Carter works for Fox Sports 1. He couldn’t keep his job if he spewed a string of f-bombs on the air.
If the NFL wants players to stand, they’re within their rights as a private entity to enforce such a policy.
If players refuse to stand, they’re allowed to stay in the locker room. If they come onto the field and still refuse to stand, their team will incur a fine, a penalty which several owners have already said they’ll eat.
So essentially the players are whining because they’re not receiving blanket support for disrespecting the country.
Carter continued with his ridiculous diatribe.
On the issue of police harassment, Carter said,
“It only happens to us. And people keep getting this thing twisted — these owners are more patriotic than these black players. Well, no they’re not…I’ve been disrespected my whole life, white people ain’t said nothing about that.”
Carter’s statement is dripping with irony. Even though Carter is known as a Minnesota Viking, his career began with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Carter almost washed out of the league due to heavy use of alcohol, cocaine, marijuana, and ecstasy.
Vikings head coach Jerry Burns gave him a second chance, and he became a superstar. Apparently, at least one white person didn’t “disrespect” him.
Carter’s parallel with anthem protesters who’ve been criticized is not apt. Leftists don’t understand this because they have contempt for America, and they don’t appreciate the freedom America provides.
Instead, they compare America to a Utopia that will never exist and use that as proof of widespread oppression and wickedness.
If the players were truly patriotic, they would stand for the flag and pursue their social activism. The issues are not mutually exclusive.
However, the left’s view of patriotism is anti-American. Kneeling turns into virtue, and standing turns into support of fascism.
Ardent anti-American activist Colin Kaepernick began the wave of NFL protests by kneeling in clear defiance of the country and the flag.
Liberals ignored his direct quotes and translated his message into a simple protest against police brutality. Even if that were the case—which his words belie—the anthem protests are no longer about that.
If the players truly want to unify the country and garner support for their causes, they would stand for the anthem and reach out to the silent majority that actually believe in the importance of American symbols.
