Conservatives have known for years the mainstream media is wildly dishonest.
Donald Trump was the first presidential candidate to successfully go after the press for their substandard journalism and label them “fake news.”
With faith in cable news dwindling, MSNBC destroyed its last shred of credibility with how they handled one terrible scandal involving an anchor.
MSNBC host Joy Reid has been embroiled in a media scandal she can’t seem to escape. The drama first became late last year when homophobic tweets and blog posts from Reid’s past surfaced.
Reid briefly diffused the drama by issuing a tepid apology. The controversy rekindled when more damaging posts were unearthed. In the second batch of discovered comments, Reid attacked Rosie O’Donnell and sided with Trump in their public spat, and gave kudos to another blogger who basically called Muslims sewer-dwellers.
Instead of apologizing for the comments, Reid said she didn’t remember writing the blog posts, and involved the FBI to investigate whether or not her blog was hacked.
The hacking narrative was quickly discredited because the blog history had been archived in the Library of Congress. Hackers would’ve had to travel back in time and edit her blog under her nose when she was an unknown private citizen.
MSNBC let Reid’s non-apology stand and stood by their host. Other outlets excoriated Reid and MSNBC bigwigs for defending such an obvious lie.
Per usual, the left allowed one of its own to get away with figurative murder, but Reid’s past wasn’t done with her.
Another batch of offensive blog posts came to light. One post included a photoshopped picture of John McCain’s head on the body of the Virginia Tech school shooter that killed 35 people, another questioned the state of Israel’s right to exist, and another floated a 9/11 truther conspiracy theory.
The third wave of posts were too objectionable for Reid to ignore, so she was forced to issue an apology and acknowledge she made the comments.
If Reid had fessed up immediately and said her views had evolved over the years, the scandal would’ve been minimal.
But Reid said she was hacked and brought in the FBI. It’s a breach of federal law to claim false charges to the FBI, so Reid is lucky she avoided federal prosecution.
Reid’s weak-tea apology seems to have secured her tenuous job position for now, but the entire ordeal is indicative of a larger problem.
Prominent liberals, especially ones in the media, are not being held accountable. Reid is allowed to lie to the FBI and keep her job. Comedy Central host Samantha Bee is allowed to say the most reprehensible things imaginable about Ivanka Trump, and she walks away relatively unscathed.
The hypocrisy of the left is palpable and disgusting. When people like Reid are not only left alone by their higher-ups but rewarded—Reid hosted a town hall special on race after Roseanne’s firing for her inappropriate tweet—Trump’s claims of “fake news” ring truer and truer.
The media can’t blame Trump for the erosion of their fidelity with the public. They did that all by themselves.
