Late-nite comedy has gone entirely down the drain.
Comedian hosts who used to make us laugh with well-written sketches and clever jokes. Now they just make us cringe.
But now late-nite comedy is not only unfunny, it’s cruel. Sarah Huckabee Sanders found that out when late-nite comics ganged up on her in an awful way.
One of the staples of good comedy is unpredictability. The best comics can take an audience for a ride and land on a punchline that was unexpected.
Unfortunately, modern-day late-nite comics have forgotten how to be funny. All of their material is boring and predictable. Trump bad. Pence bad. Republicans bad. Rinse. Repeat.
It seems the shows simply peruse Donald Trump’s Twitter feed, and come up with the lowest hanging fruit they can find.
However, the factor driving the predictability is a far bigger problem: activism.
These late-nite comics have staked out a clear position, which essentially means parrot whatever Chuck Schumer and Media Matters say.
The latest target of the late-nite propaganda circuit was White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
In light of the liberal hysteria over enforcement of immigration policy at the southern border—policies put in place by appeals court fiat under the Obama administration—Sanders (and other prominent Republicans) was forced to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia.
Sanders politely left, offered to pay, and was still harassed as she crossed the street to dine at another establishment.
For her “sin” of working for the President, the late-nite leftist jackals went in for the kill.
Seth Meyers essentially condoned the actions taken by the Red Hen’s owner.
“I’m not saying I want everyone who works for Trump to be kicked out every time they go to a restaurant…I just want them to worry that they will be for the entire meal. Because that is just a taste of the unease and dread so many people feel every day because of Trump’s policies.”
Aside from being painfully unfunny, Meyers’s “joke” taps into the main problem with liberals. All they care about is their feelings. They don’t care about law, facts, or reason. Just feelings.
Up next was Stephen Colbert, who’s so left-wing, he praised Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels during a cold open last year.
Colbert screeched:
“Hucka-Sands went out for dinner with her husband and some friends. The staff recognized her and called the owner, who gathered everyone in the back and allowed employees to vote on whether to boot Huckabee Sanders out of the restaurant. Oh good, so, someone’s getting due process.”
Another cringeworthy swing-and-miss attempt at humor. The best comedy is grounded in truth, but the truth doesn’t interest leftists.
Trump is following the Constitution, a document progressives have believed was outdated since the 1910s, yet that somehow translates into a lack of due process.
To leftists, due process means “do as I say.”
Last, and possibly least, came Trevor Noah. Of Sanders, Noah said:
“A Virginia restaurant tossed Sarah Huckabee Sanders out and refused her service. I know you guys are cheering, but I’m sorry, I think that was the wrong thing to do. I think what the restaurant should have done is treated her the same way she treats the press. Yeah, they should have just brought her an empty plate and then when she goes, ‘Where is my food?’ you go, ‘Oh, it’s right there.’”
Johnny Carson is rolling over in his grave.
If that weren’t bad enough, Noah drove the train off the rails and said Sanders was probably lucky the restaurant staff didn’t ejaculate in her food.
As vulgar as that attempt at humor is, it’s more so frightening because nobody should be giving leftists any more fascistic ideas.
