Barack Obama was hell-bent on brokering the Iran nuclear deal at all costs.
He gave major concessions to Iran and misled the public about the severity of Iranian prisoners released as part of negotiations; multiple prisoners had direct ties to terror.
Now John Kerry, Secretary of State under Obama, is further misleading about the identity of an Iranian national who is detained by ICE.
The detainee was portrayed as a “cancer researcher,” but that is far from the truth.
From Red State:
If you ever had any doubt about the degree to which John Kerry and the Obama administration was, and remains, a shill for the Iranian regime, let that doubt be dismissed:

Tragic. A doctor comes to the US to save lives and this happens. This is not who we are. https://t.co/l0kOaP4Xa1
On Tuesday, an Iranian “cancer researcher” (yes, I had to laugh at that, too, because everyone knows that if you want cancer research you have to go to Tehran) was detained at Boston’s Logan International Airport by US Customs and Border Protection.
{The detention of Dr. Mohsen Dehnavi, who holds a visiting work visa, comes two weeks after the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration could partially enforce an executive order banning people from six Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, from entering the United States. But US Customs and Border Protection said that the detention and return were unrelated to the order.
“This individual was deemed inadmissible to the US based on information discovered during the [customs] inspection for reasons unrelated to the Executive Order,” the agency said in a prepared statement.
“In order to demonstrate that they are admissible, the applicant must overcome ALL grounds of inadmissibility including health-related grounds, criminality, security reasons, public charge, labor certification, illegal entrants and immigration violations, documentation requirements, and miscellaneous grounds,” the agency said.}
Cute. Note how they link Trump’s travel executive order to the detention even though ICE says his detention had nothing to do with that order.
What happened? Executive Order 13533 sanctions Iranian persons and organizations for terrorism and human right abuses. The list is here. One of those is the Basij militia, which is an auxiliary to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.
Although the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) hasn’t officially been designated a terrorist group, there have been talks by the Trump administration to do so.
From Forbes:
It is heartening that the Trump Administration is considering officially designating Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” (FTO). For several years, a faction of the IRGC, the Qods Force, has held this title.
That its parent organization has eluded designation by the U.S. State Department defies logic, especially considering the Government of Iran has long since been recognized by the U.S. as the number one nation-state sponsor of terrorism. It is high time to reflect this reality in policy; with every day that the U.S. stalls, a sophisticated training corps run by the IRGC churns out a new batch of elite fighters aimed at destabilizing the region and sowing terror worldwide.
This past month, the leading Iranian opposition group, MeK, exposed fourteen terrorist training camps being run in Iran by the IRGC. Compared to the ad-hoc Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) training programs of the 1960s and 70s, these state-of-the-art IRGC training camps could be hailed as the “Ivy Leagues of terrorist education.”
Naming the IRGC a terrorist organization appears to be the logical next step.
The Red State article continues:
The guy in question is not only not a “cancer researcher” as a layman would understand the term, he’s a post-doctoral student working on someone else’s cancer research project, he is a leader of the Basij militia and has had a major role in supporting the mullahs and suppressing dissent.

{While some media outlets have portrayed the situation as U.S. officials preventing an Iranian doctor from performing legitimate work, Iranian sources familiar with Dehnavi’s past said that he has close ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its Basij fighting force.
“Here are the facts: Mr. Dehnavi is a high-ranking member of IRGC’s Basij, has been involved in the IRGC’s military research programs, has played a key role in oppressing dissidents, and Iran’s Supreme Leader has given him his own keffiyeh as a gift,” Saeed Ghasseminejad, a prominent Iranian dissident and regional expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies told the Free Beacon.
Other media outlets have independently identified Dehnavi as a top Basij member who was involved in efforts to suppress dissident and reformist voices in Iran.
Amir Etemadi, another Iranian dissident and Chair of the Iranian Liberal Students & Graduates, described Dehnavi as a “well known member of the Basij military organization in Iran.”
“You didn’t need to be an intelligence officer to find out who Dehnavi was,” Etemadi said. “The question is how he could get clearance from the US intelligence agencies, and how the State Department issued visa for him. I think the Trump administration should run an investigation into the case.”}
There is exactly one reason why a regime operative of Dehnavi’s rank would be sent to the United States: to run the IRGC operation to intimidate Iranian regime and nuclear deal opponents. And there is no way possible that John Kerry didn’t know this the first time Dehnavi was granted a visa.
Etemadi is right. This guy was never, ever, eligible for a US visa and the fact that he was granted one–not to mention sponsored for one by a US research hospital that gets millions in federal grant money–should be something Homeland Security looks into. And when they do, you can bet John Kerry, Loretta Lynch, Susan Rice, and Ben Rhodes will be in the same hole curled up in the fetal position.
It’s inconceivable the Obama administration didn’t know about Dehnavi’s ties to the IRGC. If they truly didn’t, that lends credence to Trump’s call for improved vetting procedures.
If the Obama administration did know, it just goes to show how leftists’ adherence to their ideology forces them to climb into bed with enemies who have incompatible values.
How else can someone explain providing false cover for an individual who represents the leading state-sponsor of terror?
